Hawthorn's involvement in the drug saga?

One of the drugs Dank and Hird discuss in the texts is Ubiquinone.

Holy S^%t! And they inject this stuff into their players!! Whatever comes of this in terms of guilt or otherwise in taking banned substances. What is patently clear is gross poor management, governance and awareness. They grossly failed in their duty of care to players. I mean they have to go to asada because they don't know what you are injecting that is a damning indictment on a club

Don't fall for that. They knew.

Strongly dislike Essendon and I would love to see their season collapse, but for some reason I've always liked Hird.

Makes it hard to relish their scrutiny.

I respected Hird as a player more than any other at Essendon in the last 20 years but couldn't like him as his hatred of Hawthorn does not sit well with me. If you hate the brown and gold, and you are associated with Essendon, I can only wish for evil to stalk of you.

If that conversation did take place between Dank and Hird it is pretty damning. Essendon should have to play out the year like Storm but receive no points for their games won. Demetriou has been hinting that there are a lot of dark clouds on Essendon's horizon so I suspect he had known about this for a while as had Caro. Not sure what ASADA will do but get the feeling the AFL will give a fair whack. It couldn't happen to a more deserving club.

Anyone else get the distinct feeling that we're the club being spoken about in those text messages?
No? How did you reach that from what was said? 'a team thinks they have a shot at a flag' or whatever it was - any number of teams, with I dare say much more sophisticated supplement programs than ours.

Here's what was said -

I had read it. No context whatsoever of when that was said. Could have been at the start of the season when any number of clubs were going to have a crack at the flag. Say it was around finals time - could be talking about one of the two teams that won an elimination final or lost a qualifying final as they'd have to play an extra game to get there. It's easy to think that it must be talking about one of the two teams that made the Grand Final simply because it mentions the word premiership.

Fair point.

Further on that note, Dank was given the arse half way through the year so one would assume it was before then as they sounded like they are still happy-chaps, so that probably rules out my suggestion in red and the 'not as good as us in that area' would imply it was while the Bombers were up and about (ie. early) as the tone seemed 'chirpy'/positive from Hird - before their season derailed with injuries.

Carlton were up and about early and Adelaide, Collingwood and WestCoast all only lost 2 games before their bye rounds. We lost 3 from 5 so clearly we weren't even taking water!!!

Curious to know, why has Bomber Thompson's name been kept out of the press? When this scandal first broke it was stated that Dank was brought into the club along with 'the weapon' on his recommendation? Is there any reason why he has disappeared in this ongoing saga?

Good question. No idea myself.

Seems to me the golden haired boy felt he had to live up to the expectations of his rabid, scum sucking followers and deliver the club immediate success. Putting such pressure on himself, would he be willing to do anything to gain advantage over the competition regardless of the legalities? If so, was he like this during his playing career? Nah, surely not. Not the golden haired boy.

Lets not get too cocky, from what I hear throughout the 90s to mid 00s this stuff was pretty rife.

Can't see how my comment was cocky, and not saying others weren't using. Just pointing out those who are put high on a pedestal and are considered 'pure' and 'holy' have the longest way to fall.

Perhaps they're protecting him, so that when the results of the investigation come out and the coach is sacked, Bomber can slot right on in there?

Um... that link is for an ubiquinone antibody, not ubiquinone. Are they talking about ubiquinone or the antibody against it?
True enough. We're not entirely sure.
