Hawthorn's involvement in the drug saga?

As I posted on here earlier this week...

Just a heads up.... Trent Croad will be back in the news in the coming days... He's in some serious trouble.

Also - you can take my word for it that James Hird will be sacked before the year is out. He will be charged with bringing the game into disrepute.
Source?

I have no idea how our club fits into the Essenscum drugs scandal (hopefully not at all) but surely Hird is now a dead man walking after first denying vigorously that he knew anything about the program, now that its come to light he was behind it all along not to mention injecting banned substances into himself!

Good riddance I say. The way he's cultivated his 'nice guy' image over the years despite it being pretty obvious that he's never had much of a problem lying through his teeth when the need presented itself (frequent denials he was after Matthew Knights' job for instance) has sickened me, and it really pleases me that the mask will now hopefully be torn back and his real identity will be exposed for all to see.

Essendon supporters will of course mindlessly defend him regardless (he could go on a Martin Bryant-esque shooting rampage and I promise you some of them would still back him to the hilt) which is going to make it that much sweeter to watch - don't forget Essendon were the ones who accused Hawthorn of taking drugs (back in the 70s I think?) which started the whole rivalry in the first place, and now 40 years later the Karma Bus has finally come back to haunt them. Serves that filthy cheating club right!

Anyone else get the distinct feeling that we're the club being spoken about in those text messages?

Not at all. When the text talked about Programs and Premierships I immediately looked down the Highway.
My Outlaws support the great unwashed of A Country Practice and their defence of Hird says that deep down they are still shitting themselves as to what The Weapon might have got up to down there. Unless Croady was mixing our Gatorade, I don't think as a club we have much to fear. Rogue elements within the club? Always possible. Systematic "Vitamin B shots" like McVeigh and friends? Very doubtful.

p.s. I'm still waiting for "Reimers....Reimers.....that unprofessional so and so" to get his SEN rant apology. :D

Hawthorn and Adelaide this week said Mr Croad had never worked with their players or fitness staff. Nor had he supplied any supplements.

Pretty much all I wanted to hear about this sad story.

The Former Docker :) at best might end up getting sued for using Moody's etc name if untrue.

Very, very silly boy!

Anyone else - and yes, this is s Dorothy Dixer question - get the impression we are gradually being fed bits of story?

Andrew Demetriou all but said that to the media yesterday. Can't recall the exact quote but in saying he felt James Hird should stand down, he said that he had access to far greater information than is currently being bandied around.

As someone who despises all forms of drugs (except for those necessary for a quality of life), I'd love nothing more than to see the whole shooting match go up in flames, and if it means taking some high profile football identities with it, then so be it.

No sympathy for anyone who gets involved.

Let's just hope any of Croad's involvements don't lead back to his playing days, I think we've got enough on our plate at the moment

Unsurprisingly, there is a very heavy dose of sensationalism involved in the reporting of some of these issues, but also examples of journos missing the point on the more serious aspects. TA65 for example, the substance that was the central part of the Croad article is essentially an extract of a Chinese Herb "Astralagus Membranaceus". While TA65 is probably not on the TGA list of approved substances (which may make it tricky to import), Astralagus Membranaceus IS.

SARMS on the other hand is considered to be a serious performance enhancer by many, and rumoured to be in heavy use in elite athletics where it might assist performance in power based events, include the short sprints (and its current detectability by WADA tests is unclear although many suspect it is undetectable). The article should have focused a lot more strongly on SARMS, rather than the relatively non-controversial TA65, but I suspect journos are struggling with all of this, and it makes a much better story to give fancy names to substances which can be found in the health food section at Safeway. Some of the gear being talked about is serious Balco type material, but the journos writing the articles at the moment are too dumb to know which is which.

The journos are also not doing a good job of differentiating what is being advertised as available by people 'hawking' these types of things, and what was actually being taken by players. Probably because they don't know yet. What Dank SAYS he's been giving people probably isn't a reliable source either. If you assume the source of the text messages is Dank, then we have no idea what was discussed in the messages Dank decided not to disclose.

For now, I'm just glad Hawthorn isn't implicated in any of this (so far).

I hope he's not fratenizing with our players on the social scene. Reading the article it appears wiser heads in the sporting industry have been giving Croad a wide berth. I hope our young and impressionable footballers have exhibited the same wherewithal.

Great Hawks supporter you are, your post just makes out that Buddy is somehow implicated in this whole thing. How do you know that is all true, I've actually heard very different to what you are saying here about how close they are.

I'm not saying anything like that. No one is implicated in this accept croad.

Oh but they spend time together on weekends....

Honestly there was no point to even bring that up, plus they simply weren't best of friends like you say they were.

You are just trying to sensationalise the whole thing and couldn't wait till the article to come out so you could come and brag and tell us how you knew it before it was printed. Yet we have seen from your posting past how many times you have gotten things wrong but never saw you post again after those claims.

Mate. Chill out. Someone posted that they hoped others at hawthorn don't hang out with croad. I posted in response.

Now you're upset that I posted about croad and Hird before it was published? Give me a break. Compared to the heresay and Wild speculation that is normally posted, my posts on this story have been very moderate. I'm not trying to sensationalise anything. I said croad was in trouble. He clearly is. I said Hird will be sacked. He will be. Lastly I said big bud is mates with croad. He is.

I don't think there's anything here to get upset about. Although croad is in trouble, no one else at hawthorn is.

I'm as passionate a hawks man as any.

I have no problem with you posting about Croad and Hird, good on you but it's your first post that really annoys me.

That's what you are sensationalising, the way it's written with the ... at the end is just poor form. Crawford and Croad were extremely close friends but they are very different people with their morals and values, many were close with Croad. He is a fun friendly guy who has made some poor decisions. What I'm trying to say is that we have nothing to worry about with Croad and our current players but the way you worded your first post would make some people, especially opposition supporters viewing this thread think otherwise with Buddy. That's the last thing we need.

At least you have later said that there isn't a link with the Hawthorn group.

Lets not become Essendon supporters and just dismiss anything. There's nothing suggesting Croad and his actions post football had anything to do with the current club but it shouldn't be written off as an impossibility.
Yeah, this.

Our players are human, and capable of making poor decisions before, during and after their careers started. If Croady has done wrong, as much as I loved the guy in Brown and Gold, then he'll have to deal with the consequences.

It certainly won't take away from the enjoyment I got from watching the big bloke out there in our jumper, and it probably never will.

Exactly Croad is my favorite player from my childhood but he's exactly just that a footballer I admired, I have no idea what the real Trent Croad is and it's frustrating that so many people judge a footballer character on his skill and a so called credits in the bank, shouldn't matter if it's Shane Crawford or Josh Thurgood, the fact is the majority of people defending these people opinion's and reasoning's are totally baseless.
