I agree withg above posters but previously we ate our own in upheavals - this time the SANFL got its way in a psuedo take-over and from where I sit we appear to not own our club anymore!

riots anyone?

Remember last month or so when we feared the SANFL taking over the club, well it looks like the time has come. We all thought, including me, that the "takeover" issue was over...how wrong.

Horrible horrible news

I'm a life long Port Adelaide supporter, people come & go, but my club remains, and so will I.

We've had the upheavals, Geof Motley, Fos Williams, Brian Cunningham, Russell Ebert, Bruce Weber, John Cahill, Mark Williams, all were major headaches, but it wont change my support.

I whole heartedly support what you are saying but gee this makes me feel flat.

Anyone that knows me knows my lifelong love of the Port Adelaide Football Club and that I have accepted the decisions they have made for the betterment of the club including those above.

The issue I, and I'm guessing many others, have is that these decisions aren't being made by the club anymore. They are being made by people who have assumed control of us due to our financial constraints. This is the day that I never thought would come, the day that we have lost control of our own destiny. Yes we have brought in outsiders before and some have become our greatest servants but they have wanted to come and that makes a massive difference.

Maybe this is the inevitable change when you go from suburban to national? Nothing will stop me supporting Port Adelaide but even through the troughs of the past few years I have not felt this flat as a Port supporter.

You cannot put a price on the pure unadulterated joy supporting this club has brought me over the years, all the flags from 1977 through to 2004, the great players, the games when we should have lost but somehow found the will to win like the 1990 GF. Standing as a boy in the outer at Alberton, the roughest place to watch footy in SA, and knowing that the black and white scarf around my neck meant I was a s safe as houses. Going to the footy expecting to win every game you went to. All happy memories.

I will stand by this great club that some of us were lucky enough to be born into, some of us had the smarts to choose and for some Port Adelaide chose them. I will continue to support them by getting to as many games as I can and buying memberships each year. I will continue to remember what made this club great and the good times we have had. And I will be there when we are back on top and looking down on all other clubs in our rightful position.

But I will never forget what Leigh Whicker and the SANFL have tried to do to us.

Port Adelaide Football Club Forever.

This is my sentiments, I now pray for the day the sanlf dies.

I hope its the long term plan of the AFL to kill the sponging, hypocritical, ********* for good.

Anyone got MH email? I would like to send him a note of support for all he has done for us

well said footyhead

normally i never used to care about the politics, presidents and all that other crap, but from the 1990 debacle, to the one club politics, the financial crisis' and mismanagement and all the defending of my clubs history and heritage in between 1997 and today, port fans have been forced to be some of the most educated fans in their clubs business dealings in the entire AFL

so with that comes a greater understanding of what a good and a bad CEO is and how important it is for the club. John James was an absolute joke with his head in the sand. We got a great one in Haysman and now we are forced to lose him? that stings badly

but worse than both of those 2 things - were about to inherit an SANFL yesman?? wow, talk about dangerous for the club

ask yourself this

if we had a "yes man" for the last 3 years - would we be moving to adelaide oval? WOuld we be "one club" with a 5 million dollar improved balance sheet by obtaining the POW hotel??, would we have negotiated 2 handouts from the AFL and increased our bottom line by 2.5 mil?

i doubt it

were losing one of the best administrators this club has had and i have grave fears for the future

If it is an SANFL appointee say a Keith Thomas, surely they'd have some awareness of how unpopular this decision is with the rank and file and how the position won't be a comfortable one. How on earth could they show their face around the club? The whole thing is a depressing, confusing mess.

Despite having a foot in both camps of the divide, I don't care for the standard of the SANFL just as long as there is an SANFL and that it has Westies running around in it, that I have a game of footy I can watch and share with my old man. The same goes for all of us who have a great bond to the Port Adelaide Football Club. Emotion and passion is a great thing on game day, it's just such a shame that it ruins it off field.

Disillusioned.

Well this is some shithouse news. Mind you this won't change my opinion of the club im always going to support them through thick and thin (very thin) if anyone is actually considering not supporting the club because of this is severely doubt it or I think your trash.

John James did not have his head in the sand. He was flawed but not ignorant to the issues we faced.

I'd even go so far as to say that JJ was the original protagonist in getting us to Adelaide Oval through his pushing on the stadium deal.

nice post :thumbsu:

Likewise, they are a cancerous growth

Some of my best moments watching Port was seeing how sick Max Basheer looked handing over the cup to us.

The sooner people like Whicker depart this mortal coil the better

how do you figure that?

when haysie and dunc came on board all these new issues were brought to light - issues that noone had ever heard of or actioned prior to that

The club hasn't denied haysie is leaving so it's looking more likely that he's gone.

As others have said, I feel flat - the club is being ripped away from the supporters. There's almost no point in having a membership anymore. Every time we get some good news it invariably is bundled with bad news.

Re: Haysman Bruised

AD was asked on '5 double-crow w***er show' tonite re a new CEO - he said any decision is up to the Port Board nothing to do with the AFL and is not a condition of the rescue package! If SANFL put one of their dogs in, we should march on AAMI!!!!

I can see the 2 smug slugs smiling already! BASTAAARDS!

No wonder Willy Wonka Whicker sounded happy tonite about the rescue package knowing the 'DoMs' have won!

Please people. Don't forget the role that Rowe and Cornes have played in trying to tear down our club. Both of these unproffessional imbeciles have constantly chipped away at our club with constant negativity. Make no mistake they have both waged a campaign to damage our brand in anyway possible. I say we all wage a campaign against them. i have done it before and today I am going to contact double crow management and further complain. These two idiots have it coming to them and I will not stop until I have some retribution as small as it may be.

Do you think that the club had no idea about it's financial situation before Haysman came on board? That's just nonsense.

Honestly, i will be shattered if this is true. What we need as a club is stability. What we dont need is our CEO being shafted because of some internal SANFL bullshit because he & the pres had the guts to stand up and work what was the best for the Port Adelaide Football Club.

I will always financially support our club and I have been a big supporter of the SANFL for years. But I tell you, if we get some SANFL chosen ****stick to babysit our club, then it is the last cent I will ever spend outside of Alberton Oval.

We could turn into the SANFLs 'rent boy' as far as I see it. We will exist to bend over and 'take one' for the SANFL from now and always.

As for the 5AA thing. Complaining probably won't get you anywhere. What will effect them is if you attack their sponsors. Sponsors start getting nervous about a campaign against them for supporting this show, and then management start to get 'squeaky bums'!

i don't mind this but want to know more - maybe he's always planned on stepping down before 2012 when a bunch of things like AO and monies were settled? don't understand the hysteria since we don't know any details. and i don't think 5AA or the advertiser had anything to do with this.. just because they report it early to **** us over again so we can't announce it ourselves doesn't make them smart or in the know, just makes them pissants which we already know

Do you think that the club had no idea about it's financial situation before Haysman came on board? That's just nonsense.

Im sure they knew - but what were they doing about it? As soon as haysie came in our books were made transparent and the repair process started with open and honest dialogue between us and the SANFL

what was happening before that?

This is disturbing news.

I hold (faint) hope that this was a deliberate play by Haysie and that he has had a job lined up back at the brewery all along. Maybe he knew that to get where we needed to go he would have to fall on his sword and was absolutely prepared to do it…

Either way – lets hope that we get someone of the integrity and talent of Haysie or Bucky and someone as far removed from the incompetence of John James as is humanly possible.

At the end of the day – the make up of the Board is probably more important than the CEO. This is where the real worries lay IMO
