Jason Dunstall rated SOS in the top 5 players he’s seen. I’d say he knows a thing or two more than you.
Yes but your response is based solely on something dunstall said and he is going to focus on the players he played on. All full forwards and full backs do.Pretty sure the poster I was replying to never played on any of em mate.
Silvagni played in an era where he could bear hug a player when the ball was 50 metres away and push in the back rule and over the shoulders rule was much more lightly interpreted. Would of struggled a lot more with the more modern interpretations as he didnt have the strength of other full backs.Supporters would often watch every game that round via tv or radio whereas the footballers themselves would only focus on the upcoming weekly match up against their opponent.
Dunstall saw a lot of SOS but he also missed many of his games.
That said, supporters have always been biased and naive toward their own clubs.
You can't deny how great Silvagni was. He was a better mark than Scarlett and Rance. Just as quick and strong but perhaps not as good as Scarlett with his play making ability.
At times, Scarlett became a link-up midfielder from the back half and opposing teams began to look for ways to negate this by playing their key forward further up the field.
Silvagni was deceptive in size. He was 194cm and close to 100kg yet moved like a player so much smaller in stature.
Graham, Jack Graham that is.needs more Jack Graham
The bald bitter fat guy knows f all, just listen to his special commentsJason Dunstall rated SOS in the top 5 players he’s seen. I’d say he knows a thing or two more than you.
SOS was an absolute superstar. I don’t believe he was the best Full Back ever. In fact I don’t believe he was Carlton’s best Full Back ever but as an all round player who could play both ends he was a champ.

Not enough Barry Cable for me.
The betts one is a joke right? The guy never performed in finals. Also only had a few great seasons. He was not a champion player at carlton. To be honest garren and Garrett looked more talented at carlton then Betts.Came here to say that exact thing. Most creative handballer of all time. If he played basketball he'd be a Harlem Globetrotter.
Peter Matera also stiff. Should have been the Eagles first Brownlow medallist.
Eddie Betts probably the goat small forward.
No Judd or Williams is downright criminal.
Ok I thought betts was funny but grundy?Defenders - Glen Jakovich
Midfielders - Dustin Martin, Chris Judd, Nat Fyfe, Adam Goodes, Andrew McLeod, Brody Grundy (in my opinion the best ruckman of the last 30 years).
Forwards - Buddy Franklin, Matthew Pavlich, Eddy Betts

Name a better forward pocket than Betts. You'd have name blokes like Matthews and KB but you'd want them in midfield first.
Id be taking Betts over Milne. Phil Matera never quite reached the same heights and Wirrpanda was better as a back pocket than he was forward
Um, Daicos?
Hird aint going anywhere.James Hird averaged 20 disposals, 6 marks and 1.4 goals per game.
He has 5 B&F's
5 x All Australian
2 Premierships
Norm Smith medal
Brownlow medal
He earns the right, as a player, to be considered one of the all time greats.
Martin may get there someday, but as it stands right now, he's not there just yet.
Cox was a significantly better player than Grundy and had a far superior career. Maybe people have forgotten his effect on games.
