Hine you've done it again!

I think we've done well to get slight overs on a couple of the deals but I'm don't see why people are proclaiming that this is some sort of spectacular trading period by Hine.

Pick 10 was our pick all along so shouldn't really be part of the argument one way or the other.

So we've essentially lost 2 very good, experienced, premiership players (Thomas and Shaw) as well as our second and third rounders in exchange for pick 6 (should be a gun youngster), an unproven if high potential young player in Adams and a serviceable tall forward who has had about a half a season of quality football in his career.

So it might be just me but in pure value terms I think our ins and outs are pretty even.

I like the cut of our jib

You seem to think as if we had a choice in the matter. I must be in an alternate universe then (Q get me outta here!!) Daisy WALKED for $$$ & Heater had reached the end of his teather and had to be moved on.

So YES we did do spectacularly well in acquiring the equivelent of 3 first round picks plus White from a situation that was basically forced upon us.

You've basically just proven the guy who you were arguing with's post.

So while Hine may be good, he may not exactly be the frickin messiah some people here are raving about.

As some other (more astute) posters have said, Collingwood have given quality to get quality.

Did well on Shaw trade, but Shaw is a good, senior player who you guys wanted to get rid of and Adams wanted to come back to VIC in a GWS lineup with so many high draft pick youngsters they didnt NEED to keep him.

Thomas walked out on Collingwood, so the AFL gave you pick 11 for him. GW trading 11 and 31 or whatever for 6, if it actually makes much difference, but not anything huge there.

And pick 10 was already yours.

Jesse White for 44 is meh.

So its pretty even really. Got good youngsters in but not like Collingwood got massive overs or anything.

When Wellingham cares more for nightlife and Daisy prefers surfing to rehab and Heater is a disruptive influence that blows finals you aren't losing quality

There's a few more that got fat and lazy on premiership success too but they pulled their heads in and got with the program Bucks has set in place

Quality is a kid like Adams that will drive the next flag and not hold it up cashing cheques and partying o_O

Way to completely ignore/forget the fact that those 3 were/are good, senior players.

In Hines words we moved on or lost players who averaged 8 games this year between them, 5 if you don't include Shaw's games.

For a top 8 side we have definitely increased our trade position and ability to build the next generation of players.

Hine also said both Young AND Lynch carried injuries most of last year.

It's been a brilliant trade period for us. MM sitting on his hands again because apparently the scums list is ok. Lol

So glad MM is gone and we are ruthlessly proactive chasing another flag.

Yet Carlton, along with Collingwood and Saints, are seen as winners in this trade period.

Yeah, getting Thomas, Docherty and Everitt is really sitting on our hands doing nothing :thumbsu:

The best thing we did by far was get pick 6. To make finals 8 years in a row and snaffle 6 is pretty sweet. But don't forget we have lost Heath Shaw and Dale Thomas. Look at the wages they have drawn from their new clubs, that tells you how good they are.

Adams is a great get but it did cost us Shaw don't forget. White might be good, Karnezis also a maybe, Shaw will certainly be good.

I know alot of us feel Heaths carry on was a negative but i'd prefer we found a way to make it work. He is that good and has things most of our backline don't. Can defend and can attack. How many of our backline make you comfortable with ball in hand?

Hilarious to think we entered round 23 in a position where we could have been playing off for a top four spot (pick 15) and due to a loss and then Richmonds loss to a team who missed the finals by two games.........to be handed pick 10 as result of that. That very same team then handed us pick 11 (better than Hawks compo for Buddy) by overpaying fro Dale Thomas......then we turned pick 10 into 6.

And we have so much spare salary cap its not funny....ready to launch a FA attack next year on a club who wont be getting FA compensation

Everitt is a dud. Thomas is a great player but you significantly overpaid for him...and you lost Betts on the other side so net no change. Docherty should be ok, feeding on Brisbanes carcass is this years trend.

White is not Collingwoods saviour but hes that extra third tall/second ruck we need. Our big coup is Adams and pick 6

I've never cared if we've "won the trade period" or "won the draft". For me it's always been about whether we improved our list or not and this year I think we have. We did lose a lot of experienced players, but as has been pointed out they didn't play much at all and were pretty much finished. Pick 10 was our assigned draft position, we didn't lose it or improvement. And I think the players we've brought in plus pick 6 should improve our list.

We've brought in three young players and pick 6 in the draft. Of the young players brought in I'm not sold on Karnezis, but will back that club there. Happy for Adams to join us and see him as a quality addition to the list. I think White is a good pick up as while he won't be a superstar, he gives us something we need, is ready to go and has shown he can compete and contribute at AFL level.

Weighing it all up against the outs I think we're just slightly ahead. Adams for Shaw is pretty much an even deal and I'm fine with us paying some of his wage for a couple of years given we've got the cap space. It allowed us to finalise the deal and move on for other opportunities. Karnezis for Paine is the one I'm not sold on as I don't rate Karnezis, but will back the club that we got this one right. White is a gain for mind when all he's cost is a pick in the 40's in a draft our head recruiter calls shallow.

What I think will determine how good our moves were this year will basically come down to Thomas & 2nd round pick (31) versus pick 6. We had the option of matching the offer to keep Thomas, but chose not to and it's one of those 50-50 calls. If Thomas gets back to full flight and pick 6 turns out to be a bust the club look stupid and we'll all be filthy. But it can also go the other way with Thomas a bust for the Blues and the kid taken at pick 6 becomes a superstar. For my mind we've got the recruiting department to give us greater certainty to not waste good draft picks so I think we've done good here. Particularly when our recruiters are saying there's little out there after pick 20, and weren't intending to use our second round pick so why not trade it to improve our draft position with a pick that we're intending to use.

So for my mind we've improved our list and it's now down to spending picks 6 & 10 as best we can.

Thomas, Docherty and Everitt arent much in one trade period? Yet White is Collingwood's forward line saviour? yeah ok buddy. noone who actually knows anything about football would agree with you that Carlton didnt do well this trade period and improve the list.
White's already better than Cloke.

Cant believe Carlton didnt target White. Hes the sort of player they need much more than Collingwood does.

And Adams. If any side needs some form of toughness in there it's Carlton's tagger based and softish outside midfielders.

Carlton improved their list simply by Betts walking and trading Hampson but that's only because of the general shitness of your list to begin with.
If Daisy can get fit, if Docherty can live up to his draft ranking and if Everitt wasn't so spuddy that would be bonuses as well.

I can barely raise the enthusiasm to give two shits about whether you did well or not, but there's one club I can think of that needs a "forward line saviour" and it aint us.

Don't believe me? Just...
