Silly to drop Sheldrick after playing him for one game out of position.. good sub choice possibly? McInerney will have a point to prove obviously, Fox back in is obviously good news. Lloyd, Fox and McCartin should be able to keep things fairly well organised in defence this week.
I don't get this concept." out of position ".
Any decent mid should be able to find the pill where ever they play.
He just looked small and no where near it.

Honestly reckon Francis was way, way better than Blakey against the Giants, so he is unlucky in that sense. (Not saying Blakey should've been dropped at all.)

But should also put some fire in his belly and give him some confidence to know that if he just puts his head down, bum up and gets to work, someone ahead of him might fall out of favour and he'll get his chance. Because Blakey wouldn't want too many more games like the one he had against GWS...

I think if Pies were taller. Francis stays in.

I just don't understand how Sheather gets another go when Sheldrick, Corey Warner and Gould barely get a chance. I've watched reserves this year and Sheather looks like a player easing his way back in after a long injury. I obviously wish him all the best but the notion of earning your spot seems to have been replaced by random thought bubbles.

Sheather is a bit of a nut and hard at it.
I guess they want a bit of presence against the pies.

Sheather might be used as a medium defender. He might be a better match up on certain players than Florent or Campbell. He seems solidly built, willing to tackle and more mobile than Francis.

Also could be worth looking at as a medium forward. We only have 3 tall forwards available now. So later in the season he could be needed there rather than using Francis forward.

Also I am happy we are trying out other players on our list. Even if they weren't the best on ground in the reserves. Hopefully Gould, Hall Kahan and Rankin get a chance at some point.

Be interesting to see the match ups with Francis out. I thought Fox was the ideal match up for Elliott, but he probably won’t be able to do that now.

McCartin probably plays on Cox/Frampton, Fox on Mihocek and Blakey on Johnson. Cunningham will get Hill as he won’t be able to go with Elliott in the air. Unfortunately it means that Elliott will probably be dangerous and turn his slump around.

I think Sheldrick might have played as a small forward at times at junior level. And he did train with the forward group last year. So he probably was always going to spend time at half forward. And only spend partial time in midfield.

Even early in the week. I was thinking Sheldrick and Francis might not be as suited for the Collingwood game. Because Collingwood play more of a running game. And neither seem that quick to be chasing Colllingwood players around the MCG.

Roberts is injured and there is still 15 games after this one. So I think Sheldrick still gets a lot of opportunities this season. Though he probably won't initially be playing a prominent role in the midfield.
Having seen Gus play both schoolboy footy (for Christchurch) and WAFL colts, I can confirm he did not play as a forward.

Be interested to know what Stephens has been told to work on, if it'll be similar to J Mac one week out then back in kinda deal.

Could just be a rotation of younger players who put in the Kms - that would be sensible. Have often called for it.

I heard Ginnivan elected not to play because he's still traumatized by the booing. He's just a sensitive young man who doesn't like wide football fields.

Sheather looked miles off the pace last week. Can't see why he comes into the senior side on the back of that, it just appears to be a roll of the dice over which of the young kids will make an impact. Problem when you have no experienced depth to pick from I guess.

Dropping Francis makes me think we have no back up plan down back with Rampe and Paddy out. We have not gone like for like down back at all and we are impacting the attacking players such as Blakey and Florent in the process.

Swapping Stephens and McInerney is swapping the deck chairs and doesn't address their form in anyway.
Disagree on Sheather, a contested mark, a kick and a couple of tackles and good positioning for the most part when the ball spent a lot of time at the other end is not bad. Didn't look overawed at all to me.

He is a talented player who is part of the class of Gulden and Campbell and has been in their shadow since the beginning. He is athletically gifted and skillful. I don't normally gush, but I have watched a lot of him in the reserves and he seems to have what it takes to be best 22.

Sheldrick on the other hand seemed to find it difficult to adjust. Not a knock on him, it will just take a bit of time for him to settle in.

To drop a player after one poor game when not playing their ideal role - and one with less than 10 games under the belt at that - seems unfair to me. How anyone could expect that player to build any confidence about making and staying in the seniors is a little perplexing. Fair enough if he got belted playing midfield all game, he wasnt even given a chance to show his strong suit. Not sure why they even bothered playing him as he's clearly not a pressure forward.

He wasn't playing as a pressure forward.
He was involved.. or near plenty of contests. He for lack of a simple term. Didn't get involved.
His best play was a gather and kick to the corridor which resulted in a goal

What exactly was his role then? Also that really doesn't address any of the points I made apart from the last but okay.

I just don't get what people want from Horse re Sheldrick. There literally wasn't a spot for him on the inside. And if he didn't select him because of that everyone would say he didn't reward VFL form.
Well isn't that the point of selecting players from the two's? If ya want a game you need to replace someone. Not just pick any round peg and fit it into any square hole. Sheldrick should have replace an underperfoming mid such as rowbottom

If there's no spot then there's no spot. Regardless of vfl form if there's no injury or someone worth dropping, he should stay in the vfl. Why compromise bringing in a player set up to fail and have no impact. It's a detriment to the the team.

Nothing wrong with Sheldrick staying in the vfl tearing it up and going strength to strength before actually coming in and playing as a mid. Tom Mitchell was racking 60 touches in the neafl for an eternity before getting a decent run.

I think what's frustrating is there seems to be no logic to the inclusions, it's all very random. On top of that we're getting awkward sub selections. A sub should be an impact player, not a kpd waiting for a kpd to go down whilst being short on kpds. Put all your kpds in the starting lineup and bring on your impact sub with fresh legs as a weapon to change things up. Instead a kpd as sub is a conservative approach with little likelihood to turn things around.

By all means, introduce him as a forward if there’s no better option (and in this case, there probably wasn’t a better option).

But he’s not a forward - so 5 minutes on the ball with Parker rotating forward or Gulden to a wing would have been nice to see. And it’d have given the kid a confidence boost, knowing his coach was showing some faith.

Horse isn’t one for deviating from the tried & true. I always found the willingness to change things up was a Paul Roos strength.

Are these coaches deliberately losing games? Have they got good bets on the opposition? For ****'s sake. We are really small down back and go even smaller with Fox in. I love Foxy but being asked to play on people like Cammeron etc is just a bit too much.

Francis out. Eff me these guys are just unbelievable

You want to lose at the selection table well you just did.

McInerney comes in for Stephens. That is like replacing dirty oil with older dirty oil. I hope Macca has learned that if you want to succeed you have to put in every game but I doubt it.

I presume Sheather is into the team. About the only plus

But they will waste him on a HFF.
