HOW CAFF GOT COTCH

This thread gets more and more amusing by the minute. Anyone who has played footy at any level above schoolboy has had negating tactics used against them and nobody denies it's frustrating. For that reason I understand Richmond supporters being frustrated. Let's face it, their captain was made to look like a rank amateur and that's got to hurt but for a supposed professional sportsman to go squealing to the press about unfair tactics invalidates the use of the word "professional" to describe him in any sense other than to illustrate that he gets paid.

"squealing to the press" ??? He was interviewed by newspapers and replied to their questions. How is that squealing?
He even conceded "the onus is on myself to win the footy and to have my teammates helping me out."

Last time illegal tagging occurred at this level was back in 2012, doesn't matter how good you are if someone is allowed to use illegal tactics, what happened on Friday was not tagging it was getting away with cheating.
Read the following as it was much the same and even the best in Gary Ablett couldn't win against it.

The champion on-baller was grossly and unfairly mauled last Saturday night on the Gold Coast by nuggety Melbourne tagger Jordie McKenzie and defender Colin Garland in the most blatant and unchecked tagging and scragging of the season.

The treatment controversial scragger Ryan Crowley hands out in his weekly assignments to curb top opposition play-makers was lame compared to what the Demons were allowed to get away with, even under the watchful and respected analysis of veteran umpire Steve McBurney.

The unashamed and flagrant grabbing and holding on to Ablett around stoppages held the game’s premier play-maker and line-breaker to a personal season-low 19 possessions and a guarantee that he would not have received any Brownlow votes.

Taggers are a blight on the game and some (McCaffer and Crowley being examples) play outside the spirit of the game.

Umpires need to make a point of paying a free as early as they can, even if it's just a 50/50 call, to set the tone for the game. Hell, pay 15 frees to the ball player if they have to. I'd rather pay money to watch talented players such as Cotchin, than pay to see questionable tactics by someone who doesn't have the skills and talent to make it as a genuine AFL player.
hope he makes the same point this weekend when S Thompson assault's Cloke contest after contest.

I take your slightly dodgy news site and raise you another:

Midfielders are a precious bunch

Nothing highlighted the fact that there are too many former midfielders in the commentary game than the over-reaction to Brent Macaffer's tagging job on Trent Cotchin on Friday night. Cotchin was kept to just 13 possessions, his lowest tally in more than three seasons, and his frustration was obvious. But instead of highlighting the lack of support he received from his Richmond teammates, many were quick to question Macaffer's tactics.

While Macaffer often held his man when he wasn't in possession of the ball, the umpires were on top of the situation with five of Cotchin's 13 possessions coming from free kicks. Ryan Crowley has forged a reputation as one of the best at his job by getting his body between his opponent and where he wants to be, and this was the main tactic Macaffer employed. Any time he stepped over the line, he was penalised.

For balance, key forward targets are subject to this treatment every week and get nowhere near the same treatment from umpires. Travis Cloke, who had another terrible night for the Magpies, endured almost exactly the same treatment from David Astbury all night and was awarded no free kicks.

Hits the nail right on the head :)

Again its laughable that a week earlier Cloke copped it as bad from Lonergan, yet thats classed as shutting Cloke down.

If Hardwick had any brains he would have played Cotchin out of the square, he was winning stuff all ball. If it was illegal as everyone is crying about, then he would have received another 5 free kicks kicking for goal.

Again where were the other 4 or so Richmond mids? Nowhere to be seen.

Because when Caff steps over the line, nek minnit 5 frees, Cloke 0.
thats a strange logic, considering macaffer only gave away 3 frees. and cotchin got a few frees from other players. one from getting ridden into the ground by i think young.

are you also therefore supporting the idea that macaffer played outside the rules? because most collingwood arguments seem to be that he did nothing wrong.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Unfricken believable is Lindsay Thompson still playing? Or has he been sent off for a ritual cleansing process!

Twisting so eons arm up their back is wrong, wether tagging or defending,

You do know that a tagger is a fair dinkum position yeah!
"Post of the Year" nomination!! So much quality in one undecipherable post.

but i thought what caff was doing (which is apparently what happens to cloke) was ok so why are you complaining?
Because McCaffer is playing good tight football and can do whatever he wants, but Cloke should get a free every time he goes for the ball. It's called "Collingwood Supporter Logic".

Thread isn't about Melbourne mate. I take interest in threads about taggers. I like TEAM players, and IMHO taggers sacrifice glory and kudos to provide a much needed role in the game today.

Tagging is fine, when done within the rules, when taggers cross that line is when people start getting a little upset about it.

Caff crossed that line, which, the majority of people in the media, ex AFL players and experts all agree on that Caff crossed that line.

Jon Ralph and Caro? Arent they richmond supporters

If King went out there and did what gaffertape did,the umpires would pull him up every time.
Some clubs get protected though.
Poor Pies, oh Clokey get out some tissues for him.

Using those tactics is soft because you know Cotchin will beat you in a normal situation so in essence Collingwood were the soft club by having to use those tactics.
The reason noone goes to the footy that sort of shit.

Collingwood also parked the bus in Richmond's forward 50.
I lost count how many Pies players all clogged up our forward line making the game look terrible and using another soft tactic knowing if the forward line was open ,Richmond would have the upper hand.

And it made the game awful as well.
Terrible to watch.

Dimma should have fought fire with fire and used the same soft tactics and have 3 players on every forward.
