Mixed feelings on the show going on for one more season, as I have already said previously, but at least a final decision has been made.

I honestly didn't expect it to continue and am surprised Segel decided to come back as I thought he was seriously considering a career in film rather than TV.

I almost gave up on this show, but decided to watch the latest episode, and I'm glad I did.:thumbsu:

Personally, I thought it was a huge pile of shit.
Don't get me wrong, the majority of the episode is as bad as the series has been for some years now, but the ending brings hope.;)

It's the others that have SFA going on and need to keep their jobs. NPH has a few side projects but nothing to the extent of Segal. The others have bupkis.

Yeah, I guess it isn't like Cobie Smulders didn't have a decent supporting role in the highest grossing film of 2012 and isn't reprising her role in the sequel or the Captain America spin-off.

Segel is clearly the biggest star of the show now (I'd probably argue Hannigan was bigger, but her career is winding down now), but let's not act like the others need the show as their meal ticket and that they'd be homeless without it, they're just smart enough to cash in while the show is at its peak (ratings wise). And, it's not as if Segel is this massive star being held back by the show. He's written a couple of middling comedies that have done just okay at the box office. It's not like he's in the middle of a hot streak like Eddie Murphy in the 80s.

They've all got reasonable careers going, at the moment. Even Josh Radnor has a okay indie film career as a director going.

My point is that Segal is really the only one of the cast members for whom the show ending sooner rather than later would be a positive career move. He's a pretty hot comedic property in Hollywood right now (comparisons to Eddie Murphy notwithstanding) and would almost certainly see a lot more opportunities opening up if he wasn't locked into a sitcom for half the year. He won't get a better chance to make the jump into serious film acting territory, which he's said a number of times is what he wants. It's a bit of a gamble on his behalf sticking with the show and hoping he'll still be as marketable in a couple of years.

OTOH I doubt Radnor is clamoring to have more time for his indie flicks. Likewise, Cobie Smulders' cringeworthy showing in the Avengers doesn't really bode well for her film career past this particular character.

The last 5 mins saved it for me.

I'd find it ironic if it was Mischa Barton as the mother, get her and Rachael Bilson back in a show together.

Lily real crying >>>>>>> Lily fake crying.

The show is so much better when they go for real emotion and play it off the comedy.

Pretty sure Scrubs have done that idea of a wedding ring making a girl "invisible" to guys though.. another lacklustre episode for me. :/

Was a bit "meh", but crossed off the theory that the mother was Barney's half-sister.

To an extent they did, that was more about JD not seeing engaged girls rather than every guy.

I enjoyed that episode actually, while the story slightly progressed I thought it was one of the funnier episodes that wasn't completely outrageous.

And didn't they do something very similar in the first two or three episodes of season 1 when Marshall and Lily first got engaged?

After a good run of episodes, that one was a real fizzer.

Robin's dance number was a highlight, but Marshall and Lilly's sideplot was extremely lame and they could have done so much more with the introduction of Barney's sister.

How I Met Your Mother DID do this in like season 1 when Lily and Marshall get engaged. Robin and Lily go out and no one is hitting on Lily so she takes the ring off which immediately leads to her being approached by some guy. She chats to this random guy the whole night. This enrages Marshall but they find out the random guy is gay. Marshall is so happy he hugs the random guy. The random guy's boyfriend doesn't like this and punches Marshall. This is the episode when Barney and Ted go to the airport to "pick up" someone and end up catching a flight to for no reason. Marshall has to go drive and pick them up.
