How long will Wallace last at Richmond?

I give him two years. All depends on the quality of the list he has next year.

Either way, there is no way he will be there 5 years. Stupid Richmond will have to pay him a lot of money when he gets the sack.........

They gave Frawley the best part of 5 years so I can't see why an experienced coach like Wallace wouldn't get the same...

The 5yr contract gives him at least into the 3rd year before any expectations can be placed on the side to perform.

he's gonna need a Bloody BIG broom though

Yep!! Right on the money Dodgey.

I will be very surprised if he makes it through 5 years as it is not in Richmonds known history to stick by their Coaches.

I wish them luck all the same.

unless richmond start to cut costs and limit what wallace wants to do with the list, i'm guessing he'll probably stay there for quite a while - well at least for the 5 years of his contract.

A very long time. IMO, it is a great appointment and congratulations to the Richmond hierarchy for acting so quickly - unlike the Crows who procrastinate like old women. But then again, I think like most people that their agenda (from 3 yeras ago) was always Craig.

LOL Casey has already announced measures to reduce costs at the club. 2.5M in debt. Playing list that is ordinary at best. In 97 the list Wallace had included Brownlow winners and 10 All Australians. How does that compare with the rabble at Tigerland?

This deal was in the bag 12 months ago when Judas singed with the Tigers.

The supporters can get as excited as they like but Wallace can't get out on the ground and get a kick he has to rely on the playing group. They are Ordinary!!

Good Luck Wallet. You will need it......

Start with trading some players that make up the fabric of the club. You were pretty good at that.......

Good to see you've moved on and are not at all bitter.

Any input on the topic? Or just my state of mind?
Your ramblings don't actually answer the question either, actually, if you want to be picky. You just pour out your pent-up vitriol and slag Wallace off.

Don't disagree with your comments on the Dogs list in 1997, either. Being at the elim final when you blokes totally out-pointed and out-coached us I'm well aware of that fact.

On the Greg Miller thread I replied that I thought it was good for Richmond. He'll last the five years and maybe a few more. Bookmark this if you like.

I don't know if I am bitter. I do know he let the Bulldogs down. He left saying his reasons were based around cost cutting. But goes to Richmond when they are in the process. He said he had never been offered the Swans job, but only last week said he would not consider the Crows position because he had been down the road before with the Swans! He is all about himself. Now do you want a bloke like that coaching your team? Or someone with the standing of Paul Roos.

He approached Carlton about coaching them and saying he could bring a senior player with him......they told he to SOD off........

Nathan Brown joins Richmond because he wants to play finals with a successful and financial club (Richmond misses on both accounts) then Wallace joins 12 months later! Just a coincidence?

Now I am just rambling!!

A bit of a mean post but there are interesting issues here. How does the ongoing board instability affect Wallaces prospects? How much power has he been granted in recruiting staff and players? He has taken on the most volatile of the four available spots but I guess that offers more opportunities too.

Yeah, hindsight's 20/20. At the time I said I would've preferred Roos but wasn't fussed with Plough. Am very happy with Roosy though, as would just about every Swan fan echo I would think. Gotta admit Malthouse did a similar thing to WCE that Plough did with the Dogs too - left them for a better offer.

Can't argue with your points, as no doubt you've focused on Plough a lot more than me. Yes, Plough IS in to self-promotion, but he was the face of the Dogs for quite a few years, dragging them into the spotlight with him. I still think he'll be good for the Tigers. (Hopefully we can stop paying him now!!)

So, can't a coach, much like a player, 'want' to come home?? Malthouse won 2 flags and set up a culture at the Eagles that has and will provide for many years to come. Wallace was happy to go interstate for the $$$$$, and you guys are still paying for it...don't think the two situations are similar at all.
