How many from your team can walk in to any best 23

Had a bad year last year, primarily due to injury and a position which doesn’t suit his absolute strengths. Can lack the defensive side of his game.

We also have too many good players and like to remain modest. I get PMs from posters saying ‘Elixuh, how can you be such a great poster and so modest? No one is more modest than you.’
Fair enough. Was super in the prelim last year, which obviously sways me a bit. I've seen him as a bit of a team lifter in other finals as well.

P.S I'd appreciate it if you don't disclose the contents of our PMs in future.

He had some big moments in the 2023 Grand Final as well.

But Carlton supporters wouldn't rate him if he lacks defensive pressure.

Surely Moore would make every team.
Nah
GWS, Hawks and Brisbane notable ones that would likely prefer what they have.
Moore is just worse than Buckley and Taylor, Himmelberg better as the 3rd tall with his elite kicking
Hawks are a maybe but I dont think Moore is as good as Barrass or Scrimshaw at what they do, and Battle is a slightly different player.
Brisbane Andrews and Payne complement each other, Moore isnt a great lockdown player and Andrews is far and away a better interceptor

U literally play Lachie Schultz and Beau McReery in ur team most weeks lmao. He'd walk into that best 22 without even attending a training session ahead of those two.

Not to mention Ned Long the last few weeks, miles ahead of him too.

Long plays cause of his age and an injury to a Brownlow medalist in Tom Mitchell lol.

Beau is really good not sure what your criticism is lol. Durham is good but I’d take beau as a forward well before Durham as one …

Schulz is also really good? He was AA squad with freo and kicked 2 goals with 17 disposals and a bunch of tackles last game?

I’ll point to one straight away. Jamie Elliott. And he’s one of my favourite non Cats. Absolutely love him as a player

Last year he averaged 1.25 goals a game. Nothing wrong with that. But it would have ranked him equal 6th for us. One of those players was Tom Hawkins who is gone now - but one of the players ISNT Gryan Miers: and he’s not pushing him out, because he’s the best forward in the comp at setting up goals.

He contributed 0.66 goal assists per game.

The only player from that list of goalkickers who contributed less per game last year, is Ollie Henry… who contributed 0.65. But booted 1.61 goals per game.

So in scoring terms, he’s behind every player we have from last year that’s still going (Cameron, Miers, Close, Henry, Stengle, Mannagh, Neale).
Other players who drift forward and have a scoreboard impact like Dempsey (0.9 goals, 0.9 assists) get more of the ball than Elliott’s 13 touches plus change.

2023 Elliott would have done it, no question. 56 goals/assists over 24 games while we had some players who dropped back a bit - 2.25 or so goals contributed is exactly what you want.

2024 Elliott - well probably not.

Maybe he will get back to it.

I hope he does: like I said, he’s one of my favourite non Cats, spectacular to watch and seems to be as clutch as just about anyone going around.

Injury plagued last year, healthy he starts without a doubt. Bryan is definitely better contributor but Jamie having the clutch gene is hard to quantify.

Sorry but if you don't think Durham would be in ahead of the 3 of them, and Tom Mitchell at his age too for what its worth, then I'll simply tell you to watch more Essendon games. Durham is an absolute gun.

I watch him and I really like him I just think he’s not there yet, doesn’t make sense for the pies and he doesn’t replace Tom Mitchell in the pies or Beau Mcreery either.

In Miers last 4 finals he’s had:

PF - 20 touches, 2 goals, 1 goal assist
QF - 21 touches, 3 goals, 1 goal assist
GF - 18 touches, 0 goals, 0 goal assists
PF - 23 touches, 2 goals, 3 goal assists

Ok he had a fairly quiet grand final but still had a lot of ball for a forward.

Hes still getting 20 touches and 3 goals contributed across his last four finals so he’s doing ok himself in big games

Elliot, though he loves a big moment and seems to never miss when he has an important shot at a goal, kicked 1 goal and had 1 assist across your 3 finals in 2023. Even the year before he was pretty good and kicked 5 across the 3 games, but didn’t have an assist and didn’t get much ball.

If he’s pushing anyone out, it ain’t Gryan Miers.

Jesus mate youre delusional.
Durham 100% is in your starting CBA mix at the Pies LOL
Ahead of all of Pendlebury, Long, Perryman, Sidebottom, Mitchell, and Mccreery as a midfielder.
Is a better complement to Daicos than JDG as a more balanced player

You are cooked with some of your takes here

Problem with a lot of this is that soem clubs have positions filled entirely by elite players.

For any KPD, there are very few who would get a gig at GWS, maybe half a dozen KPDs in the comp if im generous.
For genuine KPFs, the Eagles and Dogs in particular, maybe the Crows too theres basically only the genuine coleman contenders who can be named in this thread. Im not counting ruck/fwds, just the actual KPFs.
Ruckmen its between a couple of the top rucks who can be named

Mids, and small defs/fwds can be squeezed into almost any lineup if a club wants to, there will always be some of the 18-23rd best players in the squad who would be replaced in a heartbeat by at least half a dozen players from any other club

Agree heavy that you take Gryan above Elliot.

Next year yes, this year I disagree. He’s not at his full potential yet.

Hawks would be (certain);
Barass
Sicily
Moore
Day
Newcombe
Battle

If the question is shoehorn all players into best 23, then the above I reckon all clubs would find a spot for the above

Maybe;
Watson
Amon
Weddle
Meek

This is quite silly..any one of the above would be certain starters in any other team if it was just them being transplanted in, butt maybe not as a collective.

Heeney
Chad
Gulden
Blakey
Jordon - because he's the best at what he does

It's crazy seeing people list half their side. Players like Papley, Rowbottom, and McCartin are guns, but i feel like there are some sides where they would at least be fighting for spots.
Really? You don't think most sides would discard their 23rd best player (usually a raw kid or generally poor player to fit Papley in?)

Remember you're not putting all of those players into another team at once, just individually.

I can't think of a single team that wouldn't find a spot for Papley on their bench. Same goes for Rowbottom and Lloyd. You'd have to have some crazy depth in your side where any of those guys have wouldn't be best 23

Think the premise of the question is wildly unbalanced just because of how many midfielders teams field, with respects to good players who are inside vs outside midfielders its ludicrous to think that the best 1-2 midfielders from a team couldnt push out the 5th or 6th best at almost every other team to say nothing for those that can play on a flank or the like and pushes that number even higher
Exactly. Most quality mids or utilities are going to push out someone in every other teams 23 while key position players are a different story and unless your ruck is the best in the league he's not getting into every other side.

Pendles is the complete antithesis of Hokball. Gunston and Bruest signed on for an extra year to play that mentoring anchor position and so far one of then has played half a game as a sub, because they haven't been required.

Absolute champion of the game, but if mid-season trading was a thing and Pendles was up for grabs, I'm pretty confident we wouldn't be trying to recruit him.
Off the top of my head Brisbane and Hawks would be two teams that would NOT need him

I was just using GPT against a GPT using Pies fan to demonstrate how dumb it is
