Be honest. We all get days wher we just don't give a f#%^ to go in to work.

The average in Australia is 12.

I probably take between 12-15. My supervisors are pretty laid back though they don't ask many questions

I would take 2-3 a year.

Oh, and your employers may seem "pretty laid back" but they are marking your card if they think you are bullshitting.

Average is 12?!

Who the hell takes a sickie a month?

I guess it depends on your job, a while ago (5 years), I liked my job and never took a sickie unless I had a planned day off and didnt want to use leave, this would be maybe 3 times a year? Just a random day like a Thursday or something

But then the company got taken over, everything changed etc including my role, in my last 2 months before moving on I wouldve taken about 8 sick days. Some days I wouldnt call, knowing not showing up would make much of a splash (also out of spite etc)

So as I said, I guess I can understand if you really loathe your job

You're a lebo gangsta from Lakemba and it's only 12-15? :)

I would say around 10 days (2 weeks), I don't have the best immune system so when I do get struck down it tends to keep me down for a few days. But when I do get crook I tend to work from home when I'm capable enough to do so.

I've never had a sick day, when I wasn't sick.

I've been in the work force since 1995, and I was legitimately sick for 2 days in 2004.

I've never taken a "sickie" when I wasn't really sick.

I think its disgraceful when people do this and it's a dog act. If someone has a day off, when they aren't really sick, it means more work for everyone else. It means I have to do more work, because someone else sits at home and wants to play video games because they are "entitled" to 12 sick days per year.

Whcih is bullshit really, because technically you're only entitled to them if you are actually sick.

People who take sick days when they aren't really sick are selfish and pathetic. It is a dogs act of the lowest order and a slap in the face to your work colleagues.

And there is no justification for it either. "Oh, person X does it, so it's only fair that I do it too" etc. That's crap. Two wrongs don't make a right.

We have generally excellent work conditions compared to what it was like at the start of the Industrial revolution. Back then there was shit pay, no annual leave no health benefits, excessive hours.

These days we have an 8 hour days, 4 week off a year, health benefits, superannuation, maternity leave. And people take "sickies." Give me a break. Take a leave day, you selfish pricks, and imagine what it would be like if you were in the work force in the 1880's.

Never.

I love it when people I work with complain about others taking sickies and the greater amount of work they then have to do for the day (Which they don't do anyway), and then call up sick throughout the year themselves.

I very rarely get legit sick, hardly ever worse than a common cold. Though i used to take 4 or 5 sickies a year at my old job that i hated. Was never really sick, just got sick of everyone's shit there so needed mental health days more than anything. Plus my boss there was a woman who would take 20+ a year, when she got too far in the minus she'd just get payroll to put it back to zero. So i didn't feel guilty about having a few off.

Then I got a new job that doesn't suck, and with a great boss and coworkers. Been there a year and a half now, and I've only had one day of sick leave, and that was when my dad went in for a colostomy, but they let me take it out of sick leave instead of having to use an AL day for it.

However, special note has to go to the weekend before last, where i started feeling ill just before home time on Friday night, got home and felt worse, and was chucking my guts up big time by 6.30pm. Gave me the perfect amount of time to feel sick all weekend but fine by Sunday night/Monday morning.

At the company where I work, they are not called 'sick' days anymore.

They are called "personal days".

Boss has said we can use them when we have other shit to do OR we're sick.

Anyone that works when they're sick are bigger dogs than people that have the odd monday off.

Some muppets came in sick a few weeks ago, a week later I was bed ridden for 3 days. Id rather be working and saving my days for when I have better shit to do.

This.

A workmate of mine came to work for a week, recently, she was SO sick. We share an office, a phone, a computer, etc. Anyway you get the point. Luckily I managed to avoid getting sick- stayed away, used a different office etc.

2 consecutive days this year when I genuinely could not get out of bed.

The people I don't get are the ones that hate their job but never take time off. Take my girlfriend for instance - she has been in her job for about 4 years now and in that time she has taken one sick day, and in the past 24 months has taken no time off at all. Kudos to her for being so punctual, but all she does is complain about her job and bosses. I ask her all the time why she doesn't take a day off and each time she says something like nah I can't got an important meeting today or nah I can't got an 8.30 appt with a client etc etc - basically no matter how much she whinges about her job, she will not take a day off because she is too busy. Even when she is sick she will still go into work, yet will complain about her job every time I see her - and then get defensive when I tell her she needs to take time off. I can't win.
