We all say a midfielder who runs hard and finds the ball in space is a gun, but when a forward runs hard to find the space to kick goals he is a Joe the goose.Josh Jenkins is not Joe the Goose. Yes, he's kicked many of his goals from the goal square and, thus, appears to be the happy ending of the team play. But, on most occasions, Josh works extremely hard to get into that position. He's deceptively fast for a big man; reads the play well and works very very hard. Look at the tapes.
This not an argument to say that he should be paid megabucks. Nobody should be. The team should fly as one and share the spoils for team effort in an fair and equal fashion. Over the last decade, Hawthorn superstars took pay cuts in order for that team to stay together in a winning combination. And they rewarded themselves with grand finals.
Adelaide is on the edge of something at the moment that could deliver all the rewards the game contains. Josh realises that. He isn't dumb, or greedy, and nor is he confused by short-term goals. He's perfectly entitled to spend as much time as he needs to work out his future.
He gets the return from the work he puts in. He kicks goals and goals win matches.
