Review How will Mark Neeld be Remembered?

All in good fun Wonna :)

Agreed mate, hard to think of a coach with a worse record, even a caretaker. Im not sure what Hutchinsons record was like when he took over from Balme. I know he won a game against Richmond, not sure how many games he coached that season.

Here's a list covering the last hundred years and beyond: http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/coaches/coaches_idx.html

Gary Buckenara at Sydney during 92-93 and Bernie Quinlan at the Roys in '95 certainly have worse records, but both of them were obviously operating in far worse circumstances.

Royce Hart at Footscray from 1980-82 looks to be a pretty close comparison with Neeld though -> http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/coaches/Royce_Hart.html, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royce_Hart#Coaching_Stints_and_Life_After_Football

What "recovery"?

"Recovery" from what?

Heading where?

Did you mean this one...

Dunno what Roosy and Action Jackson would have to do with throwing away $17 billion on yet another big-arse white elephant toll road o_O

Edited for accuracy

Indeed, and Howard = Ross Oakley, on steroids. Not Hird. Can't label any coach this harshly.

Added in the name of free speech and free information. Consider me the Assange of our board.

Wonna, why do you barrack for the Dees, anyway? As a Fitzroy supporter located in Brisbane, surely you'd have been stoked when they merged with the Bears?

The exact opposite mate.

That wasn't a merger. It was Fitzroy's AFL operations being taken over by the Bears, without Fitzroy members having any say in the process, and the Bears subsequently changing their name, in accordance with the agreement signed between the Bears and the administrators appointed by Nauru - the culmination of a 12-year process of whiteanting by the AFL under Oakley. The Fitzroy Football Club has continued on ever since, but without our AFL license and operations.

The Demons were always my second club in the AFL/VFL before 1996, so that was a natural path for me. And of course, I still support and am a member of Fitzroy in the competition we play in now.

I think we should close this link and never mention Neeld again ... we need to move one and hopefully that 18months will become a distant memory.

Any no other club has picked him up as a assistant with Dew pulling out maybe we get him back :)

But I think Rattern might be the go

Yeah fair enough.

You mean the Paddle Pop??

Sorry to re-politicise this conversation, but why is everyone getting upset about the government building a tunnel? I'd love an answer from someone who understands it, because I'm baffled by this one.

I'll get together the info and start a thread on Hell about that later tonight.

i will remember mark neeld as half idiot yet half smart. to me neeld came in quick and identified the problem under bailey which was the forward line (smart). while he did put in place a strong forward line he delisted or traded skilled midfielders.

the other thing with neeld was he was a good talker, neeld was good at identifying the problem and shifting the blame a bit off him.

Will be remembered as possibly the worst senior coach the AFL has seen.

* Was more concerned with training standards than with on-field performances
* Tried his hardest to get rid of any players with potential or skill and replace them with donkeys that try hard
* Had absolutely ****ing terrible man management skills
* Did not know how to either come up with or implement a game plan
* Managed to make good footballers into plodders
* Somehow taught his players how not to get the ball during a game
* Played a defensive style of football that keep the opposition to more than 100 points a game
* Thought he was and acted like Micky Malthouse, just minus the coaching ability, respect or any other positive trait that Malthouse has
* Could not win against a non-expansion team, and even then still only had a 50/50 record
* Tried to rebuild a club/team than didn't need to be rebuilt
* Tried to justify 100+ point floggings
* Openly admitted that he didn't know why his team couldn't perform
* Managed to send the club back 10 years
* Managed to put two quality kids back in development by making them captain(s)
* Gave Pederson a 3 year deal and drafted Gilles

The saddest thing is despite his very mediocre playing career of 70 odd games, he will forever be remembered as twice as good a player than a coach.

Was talking to a Geelong mate last year when we traded Gilles and asked why he wasn't getting much time ect does he offer anything.

He just looked at me and goes "He is the worst player on our list and will be on yours aswell" The fact that he could identify that by watching him play a few games says alot about the people that appointed him
