How Will Murphy Be Viewed?

Carlton fans would get all offended about it and boo him for the rest of his career. Nobody else would really care.

He will be viewed very poorly but that is simply unfair in my opinion.

I hate that players are treated so poorly for leaving clubs for massive pay increases. Screw Loyalty, it is an occupation.

I ask any of you if you were offered massive pay increases to go to a competitor of your current employer and do the exact same role would you take it? In most cases it would be "YES" all the way. Footy is no different and whilst we all like the fantasy of footballers being immortal etc, they must think of their future and wellbeing first. Footy careers are short for even the most blessed players, dont forget that.

Look after yourself Murph, because at the end of the day, if Carlton were offered the right deal they would trade you, so what is the difference???

I agree with these posts :thumbsu:

Without really knowing for sure.. I'd probably be disappointed at first but would understand why. Certainly wouldn't jeer him or anything though if he were to leave.

TY..a sensible summation.:thumbsu::thumbsu: Why is the player at fault for seeking to ensure his future and that of his family.

The responsibility for this situation lies squarely at the feet of Vlad and the AFL...not the players.

He would be viewed for what he did AKA chasing money.

For all the crap Judd gets, it's clear that he moved back home to Melbourne to be closer to his family. Not his fault that he's a quality player and was able to shop himself to which ever melbourne-based club he chose.

Judd's critera were, in order:

1. Move back to Melbourne
2. Money

If Murphy left for GWS, it's quite clear his critera would be

1. Money
2. Nothing else

At the end of the day what is wrong with him wanting money, he has to take care of his future. The real question is why would he stay for less money. I know i wouldn't.

I will be gutted! But I wouldnt blame him. The money is insane and he is a young guy.

The thing that really gives me the shits is the compensation system, wasnt the idea that they and the Gold coast would have heaps of early picks and that they could exchange some of them extablished players? I mean what did GC give up for Ablett, two picks at the end of the first round.

WS stealing Murphy would suck but the fact that they would be stealing him for SFA is worse.

But maybe he will stay and I will be the happiest man alive!:thumbsu:

If Murphy leaves Carlton for cash, how will be perceived by Carlton & neutral supporters alike?
By neutral supporters (no such thing but anyway) - he would be seen as a young professional who, like so many in society, went to a new company offering better pay and conditions

By Carlton supporters? A moral-less scab who quit the promised land for the lure of the almighty dollar

Murphy, 23, said yesterday he wanted to continue at Carlton.

"Of course I do, it's a great club and we're getting a group now which can push for premiership success over the next few years," he said.

"We've been through some pretty tough times and we're now getting some blokes in place, and also the structure with our coaches.

"I'm looking forward to being part of the club in the years ahead.

Yeah perhaps. But the last 5 number 1 picks all look to be a bit dissapointing so far

I would of thought a Hawthorn supporter would fully know the importance of patience regarding number one draft picks.

On topic, I would probably wonder where Murphs head would be at in all honesty. What else is there for him apart from money? I know money is good and all, but he would also be leaving a team that was a rabble when he joined and practically going back to square one, albeit away from friends and family.

At the very least you could cite lifestyle and a bit of family as factors for Ablett at a stretch, for Judd it was home. The both got heaps of cash too, but it's the other factors which made it a reality IMHO.

I just don't think there is much for Murph at GWS and am confident in all honesty that he is happy at Carlton and will be staying.

I think Murphy is a superstar ,hard at it, fantastic kick on both sides of the body , 10 times better player than Swan , pendles and daisy.. Carlton will be pissed big time

Agreed, thankfully he's staying :thumbsu:

it's not exactly a secret in the footy world that gws have already signed a heads of agreement with a "midfielder with the potential to be as exciting as gary ablett" or words to that effect which came from their CEO

if i was a bookmaker my market as to who it is would currently look something like this:

marc murphy $1.02
stephen hill $12
any other player - name your price

the $1.02 is probably a touch of value on murphy as well

You're not real good at this game, probably not a great career move

No.
But Marc Murphy is :D

Fail

Murphy is the type of character that youd think will leave.

Guess you don't know him as well as you thought.

If he leaves Carlton for GWS?

Ablett was largely seen as a "Judas" midseason for chasing the coin but this feeling has since regressed owing to his fractured r/l with Thompson & giving it his absolute all.

Judd has copped a bit of abuse for choosing Carlton owing to the Visy factor & related financial benefits.

If Murphy leaves Carlton for cash, how will be perceived by Carlton & neutral supporters alike?

Ok ..with the Murphy move all but squashed the next question we all need to ask is how will Swan Pendulbury Thomas be judged if they leave Collingwood for the cash from GWS ?

Pretty harshly one would imagine, considering they would be leaving a club that is having a bit of on field success, simply for $$$$$'s

Not really, they've all achieved the ultimate success with Collingwood.

As did Ablett with Geelong.

Many people don't hold Gary in the highest regard now.

I thought he made the correct choice, obviously hurt Geelong fans but as a fan of the game it made sense.

He achieved all bar being captain at Geelong he had nothing to gain bar being a Geelong cult (which he still is anyway), he will always be remembered as a Geelong premiership player.

Geelong got some good compo when they need it most on the downside of premiership years.
