As Gladys has said, geography. Compared to the huge other states with their spread-out populations, poky little Victoria has a zillion people jammed into one area. They constantly cross paths to get anywhere. It’s the UK in miniature. Even a dedicated facility would face the same problem.

Well that’s my theory.

*ex-Victorian here
Sydneysiders could comment better than I but I’ve also heard it suggested that the nature of Sydney’s layout and associated difficulty with getting around means people are more likely to stick mostly to their area than in Melbourne.

The Northern Beaches being basically a one road in, one road out area being an example.

Maybe it’s a red herring.

Perhaps the weather here means people are more likely to congregate indoors too.

Surprised they brought back mask wearing in all situations outdoors
Yeah I won't be. I'll follow all the rules that will help with the safety of others but if I'm by myself outdoors (o
Is there a reason why we can't compare apples to apples? State to state.

Either we're perennially unlucky or there's systemic issues at play. NSW seem capable of handling minor outbreaks. WA clamp down on a single case. Both strategies work. Whatever the fu** Victoria is doing clearly doesn't work.
As the other poster said, you can’t plan for an infected person wandering around for nearly a week in the community without coming forward. That’s an extraordinary amount of time.

So which system do you want? NSW takes their chances and locked down a small geographic area. WA rolls up the drawbridge and locks down when one person gets a runny nose.

Victorian track and trace is cactus.

This time there’s no evidence for that. They’ve identified thousands of close contacts who are isolating.

My local swimming pool has an online booking system created by a 16 year old.

Can we not stand up an online booking system for vaccines? Or get ticketek to "sell" tickets to sessions.. whatever.. but having a hotline with someone on the phone sitting there entering booking details into a computer instead of having the public book themselves is just ridiculous!

Now, now, it took Victoria nearly 12 months to set up a qr code system and another 6 to get it in place so you just need to have patience ;)

True but I would think most people booking in are older and are less comfortable with that. The sort of people who still line up at the bank. Both should be available.

C'mon..you don't not have internet banking because there's a group of people (probably over 80s) who might struggle! My parents are late 70s and could book online just fine!

It's inexcusable that scientists can study the virus, come up with a vaccine, test the vaccine and produce the vaccine.. and in that time the government (looking at ScoMo here.. and the states health departments) can't even organise a simple online booking system to roll it out!!!

The incompetence is staggering .

Calm down mate. I’m agreeing with you.

Ned_Flanders will have some crazy explanation about how that's not possible, to excuse the vic gov, soon enough :)

Can't blame a Labor government, turn the spotlight on the public and blame them, anything but point out the Fed's failure. It's probably a tale of demographics as much as anything but it's interesting the way the Oz seems to be turning a bit on Morrison while the tabs remain slavish in their praise for his idiocy.

Just wait a few months until people stop shitting themselves and get the vaccination then. They'll have online booking by then and barely any lines to get vaccinated.

At present vaccination doesn't get you any special privileges so no need to rush.
