Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier? - Part 5

Nothing new, It's hard to understand why but it's approaching 2 months since the last update from Victoria. I don't know why they have stopped.

Globally Delta is making up 90% of sampled cases, and most of the variants that have got headlines recently (Mu, Gamma, Lambda) are stagnant or declining in frequency. Not just globally, but when viewed in region specific ways they seem to be declining.

Vic govt desperately making sure all current cases can be pinned to the limo driver (ie. Gladys) rather than other new HQ leaks! It would be surprising given how frequent leaks occur if there wasn't some other leak that's come out in the interim.. not that it matters anymore with 100s of mystery cases.

No, it's about you and your dumbarse mate Ben Fordham being too thick to understand that because these measures have been deployed the number of fatalies is 1000 - if they had not it may have been twenty times that, not taking into account the other people who would have died waiting for care in a collapsed health system.

We are victims of our own success in stymieing this virus because according to knuckleheads like you and Ben Fordham it doesn't exist. Simpletons.
Ahhh so the thousands recorded daily in NSW, and them yet to still surpass Andrews record of 800+ deaths, is clear and substantial proof that lockdowns work is it?

Orrrrr just maybe, it got as bad as it was going to get, and it's time to move on.

I'm thinking the 6 week gap between doses is what will delay us. Once we hit 70% first dose, by extension it is a minimum 6 weeks after that date before we hit 70% fully jabbed (Pfizer and AZ both now 6 weeks is my understanding but happy to be corrected). Hence it will be early-mid November at the earliest.

Im curious if you book in for 3 weeks if they’ll let it stand or change it?

I can get in 3 weeks after first dose or wait 7 weeks for next booking as they seem to release appointments in very random batches.

On another note if people say they can’t get a booking, go to Sandown, they’ve got thousands of booking.

What the FAR'KING FA'RK is "Professor" Too-Smoooooooooooth doing with this "18,000 cases" fearmongering bulls*t. :rage: I thought it was a joke when someone told me. This f*cka has outstayed his welcome even more than sausage-arms Danno -- at least the latter was elected

18,000 is optimistic, we’re 1300 cases ahead of NSW after 36 days despite being in lockdown for a week longer at the same stage.

Hunt has been an utter disaster as Health Minister and anti-Victorian to boot. Let's hope the people of Flinders remember on polling day.

Easy in hindsight to say we should have backed a different horse 18 months later (there were several horses). This is a boring political beat up.. hence it's been pushed by Labor MPs , the ABC and overly partisan bigfooty posters who seem more worried about political point scoring from a pandemic than the impact. Must be nice..

My problem is more that we produce a perfectly good vaccine in Melbourne, that potentially provides longer coverage than Pfizer. We should have pumped that out and be fully vaxxed by now. But thanks to terrible messaging from Hunt and ScoMo, media scare stories, ATAGI being far too conservative and seemingly assuming there wouldn't be another wave and that moron CHO in Queensland.. we're not using it.

Absolutely infuriating that they just seem to be throwing their hands in the air and giving up rather than trying something new in the Northern and Western suburbs.

given LD5 and LD6 are both from the same outbreak in NSW (assuming they are different), wont they be genetically similar anyway?

my money is on lazy, there is no benefit for the PS to do this as it doesnt do anything for their team or personal performance outcomes

This is very poor and makes me think they are hiding something.

I'll do some more digging and try to find out why. I overwhelmingly believe it will be related to some mundane sort of data formatting or administrative issue, but there is a sliver of cynicism based on last years events that it could be being held back for other reasons.

I can confirm that Victoria is still sampling cases, and have done 951 samples of the Delta variant up until September 6th 2021 (NSW have done 7603, ACT 296, QLD 242), but as to why the Victorian ones haven't appeared at all on Nextstrain/GISAID etc since July, I have no idea.

We backed one horse.

Anybody with half a brain backs every horse in the race when it comes to the immunisation of 20 million citizens at speed during a global pandemic.

It’s funny that it’s deemed revisionist by the current federal government and their shills whenever their egregious errors are discussed but never when it’s a past mistake made by a Labor government.

Not securing a deal with Pfizer when given the opportunity is not just a minor indiscretion. It sits comfortably alongside the more calamitous decisions made by any government in this country’s history at any level.

Take unnecessary and drastic action on regional areas whenever they like, won't take necessary actions against the areas of concern. I'm sure the fact that those areas also vote Labor doesn't come into their calculations...

Last year they could have released regional months earlier by simply adding Geelong to Melbourne, but given that included Neville's seat they preferred to punish the rest of the regional areas that had zero cases rather than single out Geelong...

AZ made up less than 1/3 of the doses they'd ordered so not it's not just one horse...In fact they had over 160 million doses ordered for those 20 million citizens.

But the fact the 2 biggest deals they struck were with companies that would allow them to produce vaccines locally is hardly a dumb move in a global pandemic and the countries making the other vaccines were in far more dire straits than Australia.

They also didn't secure a deal with J&J or the Russian vaccine or the Chinese vaccine or whatever other vaccines are out there. I'm sure you can point to your posts in July last year where you knew Pfizer was the game changer and AZ and UQ were both going to be a disaster.

Even worse they didn't even talk to Moderna last year.

How many billions should we have spent on the Chinese vaccine?

The point of the tweet was that Moronison and Hunt were the very ones playing dirty partisan politics.

Moronison and Hunt were told at the time about the availability of Pfizer and he and Hunt turned their backs on it preferring the cheaper AZ. The hindsight palaver is just Scummo blustering. He and Hunt stuffed up massively and the cost to Australians in health terms has been massive. And they had the colossal nerve to berate Vic when they were major contributors to the state we found ourselves in. The question is can this incompetent, mendacious failed corporate executive and duffer of a Health Minister get anything right?

What data was available on trials and efficacy for Pfizer at the relevant time?

As it stands, we should have put all our eggs in the AZ bucket. And natural immunity.
Moderna, and Pfizer were the first out of the gate with preliminary Stage 3 data.

FFS if even I was screeming about early access vaccine purchases and investing in mRNA vaccine manufacturing capacity in mid 2020, surely the feds knew their arse from theor elbow. Pfizer and a handful of biotech companies even gave them a hand.

Heaps was available, I followed it all on USA TV, same with Moderna and when J&J stopped their trials due to a problem.

It was all out there, all you had to do was taken an interest. You see, USA did see it as a race.

Of course, thank you Dr Quack.

It's not hindsight though.

This is the same thing pelple have been complaining about since mid 2020.
