I think the fact that he got within 24 hours of securing the buggest sponsorship in AFL history with a multi national insursnce giant (albeit a rapidly shrinking one) for a club with such a shithouse past 25 years as us, speaks volumes for the man. I heard that our lousy Friday night draw was against us -kinda the straw that broke the back/

Unfortuntaley unless he actually turns wine into water he is still subjected to ridicule like this.

that would have had **** all to do with it pj...if the rumours are that the aspac operations are up for sale then anything material such as this would need regional approval, it's not suprising under the circumstances it was scuttled...You cant tell me the deal was over the line until some **** in singapore had a squiz at the draw and then said **** it, not enough Fri night games:eek:

In isolation you may be right but this is another occasion where he has shot off his mouth either too early or inappropriately.

How would you feel being the CEO and tantalizingly close to this announcement and Gary March shoots his mouth off?

It is ironic that our club loses 4 or 5 games in a row and everyone jumps on Terry Wallace's back but Gary March gets off scot free and unelected with a seeming mandate to do whatever the hell he likes.

He deserves our ridicule and much more from fellow board members.

I take your point however when a team losses 4 0r 5 in a row isn't it always the coach who cops the fladck - The pres is almost never fired upon in that situation.

Interesting few months ahead - When is the AGM?

The one thing I have been happy to hear in all of this is we apparently have a backup option ready to go so at least March can't be criticised for putting all our eggs into one basket.

I quickly checked the website and could not find the date, surprised?

I might turn up just to see what kind of mood the faithful are in, he did not get the most rapturous of receptions at the B&F

Gary March was elected by a majority of RFC members in December 2004. He was re-elected unopposed at the last AGM.
He was elected president by the board.

Well said.

Amazing how some people go on an uneducated tangent sprouting rubbish.

Steven Wright gets a lot of applause and credit (rightly so) but every decision that he has made is along with Gary March. The two of them are very close and both are mad keen Tiger fans wanting the best for this club. We were 24 hours from getting one of the biggest names involved in sponsorship, only the world climate could stop it......

We go into a future with Punt Road getting a redevelopment of gigantic proportions, something that we have convinced the Government should pay for the majority, and a second facility out at a blossoming Craigieburn where the chance to develop a new supporter base with young families is right there.

Also convincing the master promoter Kevin Sheedy to take up a position at the club where we will no doubt benefit from his marketing ability, so the profile of the club will be lifted.......

Other than the sponsorship issue which I know there is a plan b, I would say we are in a mightily healthy position. I dare say the best our club has been in for 25+ years.

If only the on field side of our club could get into shape.....this club would be Financially a Power if that was to happen.

That is the reason why Terry Wallace is rightly under pressure. He doesn't make it work after 5 years doing it his way, bye bye.

Which bit is uneducated rubbish?
He has been president since 2006.
He was voted by the board, not the members as club president (it's president, not governor general)
There has been no election since.

I'm happy with the coach but I'm also very happy for him to be under pressure.

Like the president, he needs to perform.

Show the proof that Gary March has had anything tangible to do with the decisions made by our CEO?

Now who is spouting uneducated rubbish?

If you're happy with the President, good for you.
I'm not, it's called a democracy mate.

If you don't like it, go live in Cuba they get in unopposed all the time.

get a grip mhill, officers of the club act under the stewardship of the board ok, these days the boards of footy clubs play a similar role as they do in the corporate jungle, it's not the school council we're talking here partner...if the club is functioning well off field then it is a reflection of a sound board and vise versa..The current prez followed on from the calamity's of casey 2.2mn loss...Be measured in your response ...broadsides will go straight to the keeper

I really like the fact I don't have to waste my time in replying thanks to you.

Good Job. :thumbsu:

lets just wait and see how much the backup is actually worth before we go back slapping each other on how good a job march is doing:rolleyes:

so close
the biggest sponsorship deal in afl history
unfortunately due to the global credit crunch we just missed out
blah blah blah

we knew the gloabl credit crisis was happening 3 months ago, should have nailed something by now, have a funny feeling we'll sign our backup which in essence will be the equivilant of a secondary sponsor worth not much at all and well be in deep skata.

March is a bumbling fool with little business acumen and will be found out sooner rather than later, hopefully before he gets rid of wallace

Yes because it is so easy to draw up legal papers, make stat agreements, benefits, procedures, requirements, relationship etc to get the deal done. It's not like selling a TV where you can pressure sell.

You people think it is so easy, it's laughable. Click your fingers and boom.

The fact that a company like AIG was even considering us is a credit to March and his team. Must have made some fantastic presentation to even get them interested.

put whatever spin you like on it,

bottom line is, did he deliver? do we even have a major sponsor? how will this affect forthcoming marketing budgets for membership drives, family days, etc? we are in north melbourne and melbourne territory. oh wait nth at least signed a 5 mill 3 year deal with a major sponsor

thems the facts. Until he delivers I will keep the same opinion of him.

So going by that reasoning, Wallace has virtually delivered us the premiership!

the bottom line is that we were at the table with a Top co and had it not been for circumstances well beyond our control , the deal would have been over the line...If we have the ability to get to that point , I have every bit of confidence they can reload and do it again:thumbsu:

Elected as president by the board, not the members.
The members don't elect the president. The board does.

What's your point anyway? He was elected, not "unelected" as you claimed.

There hasn't been an election since 2004 because there hasn't been a challenge to any board member up for re-election.

Back to the actual sponsor for a minute....
The AIG deal fell through, yes.

But my god, this is looking better and better for Ken Bruce everyday. Sure he's been quiet for a while, but he will signal his comeback by signing on the dotted line for the RFC.

bookmark away, ladies and gentlemen.

I heard that our lousy Friday night draw was against us -kinda the straw that broke the back/

If something that trivial was "the straw that broke the back," then obviously there were a numerous other more important factors preventing the deal going ahead...yet it was still presented to the media as on the verge of being a done deal.

Surely nobody can think that was a smart way of handling something so important?

I think the fact that he got within 24 hours of securing the biggest sponsorship in AFL history with a multi national insurance giant (albeit a rapidly shrinking one) for a club with such a shithouse past 25 years as us, speaks volumes for the man.

Unfortuntaley unless he actually turns wine into water he is still subjected to ridicule like this.

How did he get within 24 hours of securing a sponsorship when you also just stated that there were numerous problems (the rest of the load apart from "the straw") preventing the deal going ahead?

In think the fact we've finished so close to finals so many times in the last two decades, speaks volumes for us. Unfortunately, the rest of the competition still sees fit to subject us to ridicule because of it.

Can we really argue that we don't deserve that ridicule merely because we were 'close?'

Not IMO.

So when he does get a sponsorship deal, it will all be alright with him?

The fact is he took over a sinking financial ship with Clinton Casey ruining everything about this club financially.

He has steadied the ship, we are a club making annual profits, and we have some great future deals with the grounds, Kevin Sheedy, better fixturing etc.

This is the best the club has looked off the field in 25 years.

Once we get plan b settled in terms of Sponsorship, what then will you complain about?

Let's see if Wallace can keep his end of the bargain up and produce, or will we fall for his spin again? To me if he did his job and gets this club going on teh field, financial woes would be a distant memory.

They are mates, Casey appointed this idiot as vice president after the last election and then made him president.

Leon Daphne led the club to 7 or 8 consecutive profits in the 90s and put money in our clubs bank. In an off field sense, that was our clubs most secure period since the 70s. We are nowhere near that.

Just remember that the club has been counting Jack Dyer contributions in its annual p and l. This has been the difference between significant profit and break even. Jack Dyer contributions are donations to re-build Punt Road. By any auditing standard, it is creative accounting - papering over the financial cracks.

Cutting costs in the football department is easy to do, raising revenue is difficult. Richmond has been one of the lowest revenue generating clubs in the AFL under the reign of Gary March/Clinton Casey.

Open your eyes, put the president under the same scrutiny that you put on the coach and playing list.

The club has to declare contributions to the JDF in the Annual Report.
It's the law, not creative accounting.

Is it a habit of yours to make stuff up that suits your opinion?
