OK, I've spent a bit of research time on the net, so I'm prepared to admit the success of Mick's troll, if that's what it was. I can't find a cracker of evidence that the term palm tree is considered racist anywhere in the world.
I did find something interesting though. Sandi has often been referred to as "Lurch". It appears that the term lurch is a particularly offensive racist form of abuse used exclusively against tall white people in some countries.
The historical derivation of the word comes from legends of a tribe of tall people with no melanin in their skin who, after raiding nearby villages inhabited by peoples whose skin had far more melanin, used to lurch to one side due to the weight of the sacks they were carrying which were loaded with plump children to eat.
