Dear Lions,

All I want in a senior coach:

- premiership winning playing or coaching experience
- committed to our Club and it's values (aside from the current board)
- uncompromising attitude to winning

The person who best fits that is Michael Voss. I want to see this board thrown out, a new one in and Voss back as senior coach.

Sydney did it with Roosy, fan and member support getting their choice over the line. We can do the same thing, if we are united.

Regards
Cameron

We are playing better under mark harvey though, wish he would stay on as our coach :(
Playing better?
How did you come to that conclusion?
Sure we have won 2/3, but I think there is a very good case to argue that we would have done that anyway.
Bring back Vossy and let him finish the job!

What we need is an experienced coach who knows what it takes to win premierships. One that is good with bringing along young players. One that has the respect of the football community and has profile in Queensland. One that already has a link to The Lions and is available to start immediatly. M. Voss ........why would you look anywhere else?

No you don't. The last three games have shown the difference a good coach can make to this team.
The preparation of the team prior to match is glaring. The analysis of the opposition's strengths and weaknesses and planing for it is stark between Harvey and Voss. Check our first quarter performances under Harvey as opposed to Voss.
What we need is a good coach.

I suppose you missed our 2nd halves against GWS and Bulldogs?

For the love of god Harvey is not interested.

"I've been a senior assistant coach and I've really grown in that job," said Harvey ahead of the club's expected announcement of Voss' replacement in coming days. "That's where I see myself in football now. "I've just made a decision that this is where I see my area of the game."

Bit of a silly argument. "Preparation glaring"? "Analysis and planning, stark"?
How the hell would you know unless you are attending all training and meetings?

The team has been improving all year and the last few weeks we've played GWS and Bulldogs. We had a great game today and I don't discount Harvey's contribution and management, but to make the conclusion based on those 3 games that Harvs is streets ahead of Voss and the difference between winning and losing is preposterous.

We could have a combo. Harvey to coach first half and Voss to coach second. That way no slacking off in the last terms.

Voss' coaching record sits right on 40%. As Leigh Mathews said last week no coach would keep their job after 5-years with that win rate. It's really time to move on. Even Neale Daniher had a percentage around 48% when he was sacked and that was over double the games!

Yes, let's all pull the stats without taking into consideration any of the following situations that transpired over the course of his coaching career.

  • Compromised drafts
  • Horrible facilities provided to him by the club
  • Quality of list at the end of 2009
The fact that he has groomed the list we have from 2011, made them into competitive teams capable of matching it with Geelong at Kardina Park, something we haven't done for a long time, speaks volumes of his character and the influence he has had on the playing group. Please don't go sprouting the same bullshit about winning percentage when there are clearly other factors at play.

The team that matched it with Geelong at Kardinia was playing against a bunch of blokes going through the motions. They admitted they didn't give a stuff about the match and were not trying to get injured and we were going 100% so don't go sprouting the same bullshit as how we're going in a nothing game. It's like getting excited about winning the pre-season cup then getting flogged by one of the worse Victorian teams a week later.

Perhaps if he wanted to get another extension on his contract then we should've been competitive at Etihad, the Gabba (Collingwood), The SCG, Paterson Stadium, Aurora and the MCG where we haven't seen a win for so long.

Having said that, the quality of the list at the end of 2009 mustn't have been too bad if were able to get in to and actually win a final and then look what happened when he had full control of the list?

What I'm waiting for is to see who the Board get to replace him. If they go for an coach without the full credentials like they did when they appointed Voss, they should be got rid off. Someone in the board obviously thought they were much closer to getting Roos signature than they really were (that and the fact the AFL are also leaning on him to sign with Melbourne).

Voss won't come back even if asked now, but what we do need is a new chairman, Johnson is a tool and is holding the club back.

Which is weird because I expected them to come out after the match and say "Gee, we played our absolute best footy and the other mob was just way too good."

When they got the fright of their lives at home, one week before the finals against a non-finals side that had already beaten them once earlier this year, it meant something. Bartel was willing himself at contests. Chapman and Stokes were doing the same. There is no doubt that Scott was coaching to win. Perhaps a few of their younger blokes took it easy but don't denigrate a proud performance. That performance was a really positive sign for the future. Whether it says anything about Voss or indeed Harvey is worth debating but it certainly says something about the heart and potential of the 22 blokes who ran onto the ground.
