We can ask the same question about Rod Laver after he went professional? For five years, at his peak, he could not compete in any of the majors. He won the Grand Slam in 1962 and again in 1969, one year after the tournaments were declared 'Open'. Laver finished with 11 Grand Slam titles. Who knows what he might have finished with? And he did what no one else has done since - win 2 X Grand SlamsI wonder what Graf's record would have looked like if not for the Seles incident. Seles seemed to be gaining Graf's measure at the time. But those figures do give me pause for thought.
