I was probably a bit harsh … but the talent pool and level of competition was not a patch on recent era’s.

Sampras won 14 majors. McEnroe 7. Agassi 8 etc…

Imagine the 1980’s-1990-2000s comprised only players from Aust and USA who were capable of winning majors?? No Edberg, Becker, Wilander, Lendl, Bjorg ..….. How many majors do all the Yanks win ……McEnroe might’ve won 30 without Lendl and Bjorg etc…

But you can only beat who is in front of you and maybe Laver would’ve beaten ‘em all even if the talent pool was 100x larger as it is now…. so I won’t discount him as I did earlier.

I never claimed to have proof of the underlying reasons why he's not better than those players mentioned, he just isn't. Why isn't every basketballer as good as Michael Jordan or Lebron James?
