The history of the AFL is largely founded on State football. The AFL is made up of teams from former State leagues, or essentially State teams themselves. It is therefore a real let down IMO that we do not celebrate State of Origin football. This was an opportunity to see the best vs the best. I am not surprised that recent administrations don't want to celebrate the best vs the best (probably want to give all players a ribbon). States given up a lot to join the league, the least the league can do is show them some respect.

2 state of origin games a year on a bye weekend. SA v VIC & WA v Allies and then swap every year so every state plays each other on rotation every 4 years. 1 on Friday night and one on Sat night
And have so the players that play in these games get an extra week of leave at the end of the year and $$$ bonuses. Let the AFL run it and overpower clubs so clubs have to let their gun players play in these games.

Every state and territory has a team in it (no bullshit Allies concepts).
All-Australian team to be selected from those players participating in the carnival.
Those selected but pulled out for bullshit reasons are suspended from Round 1.

I don't think you can have sides from Qld, NT, TAS & NSW in this modern era... the talent isn't deep enough.
I cant see why we cant just go back to having it. the fans want it! every year we have this discussion... geez I miss the early 90s being a kid and being at Footy park watching these huge games. 92 & 94 were some of the best games ever!

Yep, every year around NRL SOO time this gets brought up.
It works in League because there is still really only 2 states that play the game and the passion runs high.

NRL's State of Origin stymies national expansion and diminishes the club competition. The AFL will never bring it back for those reasons.
