It genuinely looks like a punishment. Why would anyone put themselves through that just to get seats in the front row? I wouldn't do it if they were the only seated memberships left in the entire stadium.
It is a bit wierd. What next, tar & feather all ppl in front row?

What’s the deal I haven’t read up on it?

From their website, basically you are part of their marketing department except you are paying them for the privilege. All sounds horrible IMO.

Front Row members will play their role in cheering the team to victory and creating the best match day atmosphere in Australian sport. Leading the crowd behind them, The Front Row will have certain responsibilities to comply with.

Please consider the following information carefully before deciding if The Front Row is for you:

  • The front row of level 1 is behind a fence. This fence will not restrict the view of a person of average height; however, shorter people or children may find it more challenging.
  • Front Row members must be West Coast Eagles supporters! If you can’t attend, you won’t be able to use the Seat Return program; instead, you must ensure you seat is being used by a fellow West Coast fan. Under no circumstances can there be any opposition colours in The Front Row!
  • Front Row members are expected to wear their club-issued caps at every match, and, if possible, any suitable West Coast gear they may own (note that there may be a request from the club, or its partners, to wear a uniform in the future).
  • Front Row members are expected to comply with, and perform, a number of club duties, for example (but not limited to):
    • Standing up and leading the crowd behind them in specific activities, to be advised by the club by email ahead of the match
    • Holding up signs, flags, banners, etc, as may be issued from the club
    • Handing footballs from players to children in the crowd behind them (given the height of the fence, players will no longer be able to select children themselves). Front Row members cannot just keep these for themselves!
    • Meeting as a group ahead of home games to lead a fan march; location to be advised by the club

What the!!!!!!!!! all sounds a bit fascist to me, what are they going to do if you turn up in non designated clothes? Chuck you out. What's next, everyone has to clap and cheer in the stadium when directed?

hmmm I like the idea of getting the crowd more involved. Would I do it, probably not, but we do need more crowd craziness. Personally I would have had a few dispersed blocks of "crazy fans"

My old account seems to have been deleted, but sharing here for benefit of others. I asked membership team about the options and how length of tenure affects it:

Thank you for your email.

If you take up a Flexi membership or Front Row membership this year and want to upgrade into a Reserved Seat for the following year, you can submit a Seat Move request at the end of the year around October / November when we commence the 2019 renewals process and we can look into the request to see if we can assist you at that time. This process will be developed over the next 8 months & released on our membership website around November 2018 so please keep an eye out for more information at that time if this is something you are looking to do.

During this Seat Move process we assist any medical requests first as they have very specific requests for their medical conditions and then look at all other requests based on length of membership to see if we can assist with as many requests as possible. It all depends on the number of requests and how many seats are returned to the club from Reserved Seat members so we can't guarantee we would be able to assist for the first year that you make your request but we would encourage you to keep submitting your request each year until we can assist with your request.

It you were to take up a Flexi membership this year, it will not put you ahead of other In the Wings members who have declined their offers in the future.

So, to put it in context, if I am 1,800 on the waitlist (say, a 10 year member), and I don’t want a Flexi membership this year, I decline the offer and remain as In The Wings.

Next year, when we do our seat moves / upgrades, I’ll be offered a reserved seat (if available), ahead of someone who was 5,000 on the waitlist (5 year member) and took up a Flexi membership.

Hope this helps.

I agree with getting the crowd more involved.

As much as I hate to say it, there's always been more atmosphere generated by the purple people than the blue and gold ones...

Mr Nisbett revealed that almost 6000 of the Eagles’ In The Wings members had been allocated seats at Optus Stadium after waiting up to 15 years for a membership. But there were still 9000 households on the waiting list and he said they were likely to continue the allocation program into the opening rounds of the season.

He predicted new three-game and five-game memberships to become hot-ticket items as fans looked for more flexibility and said seats with restricted viewing would be sold at lower prices.

Mr Nisbett also expected remaining In The Wings members to be able to buy tickets as part of the 6000-seat daily passes to be made available as well as through the resale program.

So where is the club up to, 50k seats, how many have been allocated?

Big update: After some close communication with the club it turns out I was the victim of a system error. They have subsequently immediately offered me a Flexi/Front/Cheer upgrade for this season with a guaranteed upgrade to full 11-game membership next year due to my 12-year status. I am a very very happy man today :D

Glad they got this sorted for you mate. I've generally found the membership department pretty helpful.

As long as you are all wearing a selection of official 2018 merchandise, have passed the ‘I love the Eagles’ exam and hold the sponsorship signage above your head while doing so.

Have any of the recently upgraded itw members received their membership pack yet? I upgraded a few weeks ago now and haven't seen anything. After a decade of pins and stickers, it will be nice to actually get something useful in the mail from WCE.

I got my seats 2 weeks ago and haven't received anything yet (though it has been dispatched). They have emailed me my barcodes incase the pack doesn't arrive on time, as I need them for entry to the ground.

Nothing yet. The tracking (there is a link in the email) indicates an ETA of this Friday.
