That period from the 2010 ashes would have to be his career highlight, leading run scorer in an away series win in aus followed by leading run scorer in an away series win in india.
Our bowling was laughable. He made hay when the sun shined, as most batsmen worth their salt should!

One of the best openers I've seen. Continually churned out the runs with relentless concentration and discipline. Overcame a couple of flat spots through sheer hard work and despite a lot of moaning from external quarters, will go down in the history books as one of the most successful English captains.

Though this was utter filth!!

Great career by Cook

A leg side strangler is an awesome ball ( in 8th grade cricket)

unchanged team with Moeen to bat at 3.
No idea why Rashid keeps his place in the team and why Moeen is promoted to a spot where he is no good.
Woakes should have replaced Rashid . Then we have Jennings keeping his place .

Root , Bayliss and the head selector are just making it up as they go along.

Meanwhile in the Indian camp it's rumored that Vihari will debut and replace Pandya and Jaddu will replace Ashwin who is not fit. Why Vihari ? Nair is the original backup and have had more exposure. And still going with same openers without Shaw ? Stupid management.

Hope we lose this match. Already Shastri is talking crap a=on how close series is and if we win next match he will be unstoppable. Hope we lose by an innings. It will serve Indian cricket good in future.

It takes some doing on bigfooty, but you'd have to be the most miserable goat on this site I don't think I have ever seen a positive post.

I'd have found a spot for Woakes this test too seeing he is now fit again, but The Oval is generally flat and more likely to take spin. Rashid 7 wickets at 32 for the series is not half bad so it's not unreasonable rationale.

Makes no sense to discard Jennings for the last test. He has shown before and in county cricket that the temperament is there and played an important knock in the second innings of the previous test which was critical in the scheme of things. Burns will come in for Cook in Sri Lanka and given Jennings is as likely as any of their openers against spin, it'd be stupid to drop him now.

I think ultimately they need Root batting at three. Am a believer in Moeen's talent with the bat though, who knows giving the guy a key role might be the making of him.

You'd think so but in reality, the BCCI only cares about T20 and tests at home.

We have to plan ahead for the Ashes. Put together a team that can win back the Ashes and this lineup doesnt strike as a team that is going to go anywhere.
Moeen has had a huge impact as a lower order hitter who has won us many games. Having him at number 3 is a bad move . Just imagine him being exposed to a new ball in the Ashes !!

Burns will prob come in ,unless the selector does something crazy and brings back Stoneman or something.
But so far he has surprised people and picked Rashid and Pope ,when no one saw it coming .

I was expecting a much closer series. The tourists simply haven't turned up.
I wouldn’t go that far - Kohli (Pujara to a lesser extent) and their fast bowlers have been good I reckon - but they’ve had too many passengers.

I dunno, I just expected more of a team ranked No. 1. Especially since poor old England have been all over the place form wise since the last (northern) summer.
