Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

Ok no one likes a shit fight guys keep the chat constructive otherwise agree to disagree.

As for your argument then I think both sides have merit, I will try to address both sides with some perspective.

It is true that Adelaide lost a hell of a lot of experience over the preseason. But it should be noted that most of them played little or no part in our late season form improvement. Of the players that retired...

* Edwards had one good game (his farewell against Fremantle)
* Burton barely fired a shot and I don't think he even played in a winning game
* McLeod was serviceable early on being one of the only players pulling his weight early on until his knee finally succumbed to injury.
* Goodwin was pretty reasonable until injury again took over (didn't play after round 16).
* Bock is the big one, whilst his 2010 was below what he is capable of, a fully fit Bock is close to the KPD in the comp. But to be fair he hasn't been close to that since mid 2009 at the latest.

Since we lost a lot of those players prior to the end of 2010 I think that puts us in a greater position than had they all retired in round 22. But that is a lot of gaps to fill, which is a huge undertaking for Neil Craig.

I think the two things that separate Adelaide from DWD's Essendon/Brisbane examples is that Adelaide never took the ultimate prize and therefore had access to slightly better draft picks. We also picked well with those picks since Rendell took over and it is those recruits which must take the new responsibility thrust upon them if Adelaide has a significantly better year.

The three big injuries (Porplyzia, Knights & Vince) were some of our biggest links with two of them slotting 80+ goals between them and Vince threatening to be an elite midfielder. Now this year Porplyzia is traveling well but the other two are harder to tell. Knights just keeps getting niggles and Vince has to be monitored due to the degradation in the cartilage of his knee (he may never return to his best).

I myself believe that Adelaide can finish from anywhere from 6th (unlikely) to about 12th. I think we will finish from 8th-10th much like DWD (although slightly more optimistic).

Time will tell who is right...

I wont make an account if i can keep to my actual thoughts 10th or worst, i have said this more than once now, do you want to take the bet?? you can make a new account if you want if the crows finish 9th or higher. If they finish 10th we call it ties and both keep our current accounts, Pillager wont take the bet, hes scared. Otherwise he would considering i am the only one who can lose anything.

My original statement was they will finish 10th at the highest (thus 10th - 17th).

His original statement was they would improve (thus 10th - 1st)

So we both have a common denominator/ending (10th) - yeah everyone agree with that?? hand up who doesnt agree and prove that i did not say this??

Nope, no one didnt think so

So i tried to make the bet reasonable for both ends. 10th we call it a tie (at the end of the day we both have it as a common denominator). The above explains what happens with every other occurrence.

Than for tissue boy i decided to make it better for him, i will go away from my opening statement to satisfy him. 11th-17th coz he wont take the bet - girl. Than he says whats the point - well take the first bet you little magpie metal tooth supporter.

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

Can your new account be "Dunn - Well overDone"?

Or

"Travis Cloke = Spud!"

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

Do not touch him with a 10 foot pole, and if you do, make sure you are wearing rubber gloves.

Besides Pillager's 10 ft pole'rubber glove warning has there been any reports out of Crowland on Knights' fitness and liklihood to play round 1?

I watched the trial match against freo and I think he came off at half time with a niggle that Adelaide decided to play it safe with, groin IIRC from the match day report somewhere. Before he came off he barely had a touch and certainly didn't impress.

I'm definitely not considering him. If he stays fit and floats across a HFF he will improve but I don't think hugely, and also carries a big injury risk. Just not worth it.

FWIW (in relation to the above "bet/argument"), I think the Crows will surprise this year and finish seventh or eighth on the ladder. Coming from a Crows supporter this probably doesn't mean much but I agree with pillager and think that our veterans making way for young talent combined with a much healthier list and more structured pre-season will mean Adelaide will improve on last year, perhaps considerably.

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

Sorry major tom, didn't answer the second part of your question. My impression is that the crows are intending on playing Knights round one, hence their playing it safe strategy with his niggle at the weekend. Neil Craig likes him at half forward, has played him underdone before, and would again, but Knights will probably be fit for round one.

Nick Malceski has done his knee again according to SEN. Going to get LARS again.

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

yeah...jeez this bloke is making it damn hard to pick him!

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

Well, last season he had a great preseason which explains why he only missed one game.

He's probably out of my team now.
My golden rule is don't pick anyone who has had an injury interrupted preseason, regardless of how good they are. You can always upgrade to them later.

I had Chapman right from the start last year based on his preseason form. Haven't considered him this year.

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

Yeah ill probably shy away now, to many injury concerns and i must admit sort of got talked into it, in the first place. Just hard to know who to replace him with??

Need another premium top end forward. Might have to go with Buddy now.

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

The only 2 forward premium's without question marks are Buddy and Voldt. I might go very agressive with Guns N Rookies up front because there are a ton of rookies options and very little to offer in terms of guns

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

There's question marks over every premium forward so I don't know why you didn't have Buddy in the first place.

Just one of those things, i just dont like him as a selection. But he now might just get in, purely on the basis he is next best in the order and he also is going to be a top 7 forward.

But it really depends on his role. 09 role i see him dropping to 85, 2010 role i can see him being consistant and hard to bring in, thus a 95+ avg.

Bloody Knights, than Chapman my structure changes daily.

And IMO both still have question marks over them.

Buddy will he play his 09 role? or not. Always suspended or missing games every year aswell.

Riewoldt, hamstring has to be a question mark.

But yeah, not many premium forwards that dont have question marks.

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

Ian Callinan off injured in the Crows/Blues NAB game, right bicep iced and strapped.

Re: Injuries and Suspensions - 2011

5AA has said Callinan has ripped the bicep muscle off the bone, gone for 6-10 weeks.
