Mrs White City is just home from the intra club match and was excited at what she saw. The White team won 14 goals 7 behinds to the Blue Team 11.9.

Cordy, Roughead, Gia and Welsh all kicked 3 goals for their respective teams, with Minson, Griffin, Stack and an unidentified player (No. 1 Blue team) kicking 2 goals.

There is much to be excited with our recruits Cordy and Roughead. Both will become absolute legends at the club. Cordy is outstanding - skinny certainly - but his skill may see him playing in the goal square early in the season.

The usual suspects - Boyd, Cross, Griffen were outstanding and look like having great seasons. Higgins is on fire - he will be fantastic (worth a Brownlow bet at odds?).

Malcolm Lynch was a constant ball winner over the four quarters - played a sensational game. All the senior players contributed - some worked harder than others but all look in good form.

As anticipated, Wight and Skipper struggled.

Addison should play every game, Ward was ok, Minson was Minson, Stack showed a bit, Callan was good, the Eagle was good but probably only played half the game. Welsh kicked three, just missed another - looks like being able to contribute 35 -50 goals this year hopefully.

Much to look forward to - Williamstown should be strong this year as those who will not play seniors are showing much promise.

Mrs. White City was glad she went and hasn't stopped talking about the game over the fish and chips.

Stand outs for me were
Stack he was very good.
Higgins who has to be related to Cousins.
Griffin looks to have improved again.
Cordy. Didn't play on anyone off note so performance is not clear but did well all the same and makes good position.
Roughead. Looks like a ready made forward.

Thought Skipper did OK.

Would like to confirm the Wight should not be playing and really he doesn't look like he wants to be there.

Grant did well. Still looks another year away really.

Lynch was everywhere today will take eagles spot for sure, Cordy reads the play well and Roughead was outstanding on the ground very mobile,
but the highlight for me was John Shaw inthe white team played in the ruck a huge fellow,:p mobile and made skipper look 2nd rate,
any way he was no 43 i hope they had his name right in the team sheet

Isn't Shaw Rookie listed? Look like he might get a Guernsey next year.

Griffen. Sorry, it just annoys me when 90% of people on here spell it wrong.(Note: Facts and figures may not be 100% accurate)

Shaun Higgins was impressive in the scratch match

A TWINGE to Ryan Hargrave’s right ankle was the only bad news to come from the Western Bulldogs’ scratch match at Whitten Oval on Friday afternoon as the club’s big guns – and a couple of lesser-known pups – shone during a four-quarter hit-out.

In blustery conditions, it was midfielders Daniel Cross, Ryan Griffen, Daniel Giansiracusa and Shaun Higgins who were prolific for their respective sides.

Meanwhile, first-year draftees Ayce Cordy and Jordan Roughead turned in eye-catching performances up forward – each booting three goals in a sign of exciting times ahead for Doggies’ fans.

While there were plenty of skill errors, Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade said he was satisfied with his team’s workout ahead of its NAB Challenge series match against St Kilda next week.

“It was reasonably windy out there so it was difficult going into the wind,” Eade said.

The Bulldogs moved the ball efficiently at times, with Scott Welsh, Jarrad Grant and Will Minson all providing focal points at varying stages.

At ground level there was plenty of spark from livewires such as Malcolm Lynch.

Eade said he would like to think Lynch – who missed the majority of 2008 with hamstring injuries – would play senior football while Brennan Stack also impressed.

His athleticism was evident throughout the four quarters.

“He was another one that was pleasing,” Eade said.

“I didn’t think he displayed all his talent last week [against Essendon in the NAB Cup], I thought he was a bit inconsistent but I thought his work rate today was really good.

“He’s got a lot of talent and he just needs to grasp what’s required at AFL level, which is a consistent work rate.”

Just as pleasing as the prospect of some new faces in the side this season was the form of Ryan Griffen, who looked in great nick despite having been absent from the club for almost a fortnight.

“He was good wasn’t he?” Eade said.

“We had to actually hold him back a bit at times. We told him to try to pull the reins a bit as far as his pace [because] he hasn’t really trained with us for two weeks.”

Brad Johnson, Robert Murphy, Adam Cooney, Brian Lake, Jason Akermanis and Mitch Hahn sat out Friday’s match but Eade reported good news about some of his stars.

“Aker and Murph, more than likely, will play some game time next week, varying between 20 minutes and half a game,” he said.

“Cooney will more likely be the week after.”

Hargrave’s ankle injury is not expected to keep him sidelined.

Anyone know who number 1 was for the blue team? He played alright.
Higgins and Griffen impressed. Stack surprised me, in a good way.

The stuff i have seen on the news, they have had their normal number. Which is why i asked if it was Grant. And it was said he kicked 3 goals in the OP.
But as i wasn't there, i can't help anymore than that.

Now after dazzling us in the Pre season match in his campaign 2 years ago Malcolm has been injured most of the time, but even during that period he did challenge Daniel Cross in a time trial (no mean feat)

I am extremely hopefull he is no longer 67 kilograms, his listed weight on the club site.

Good luck Malcolm.....stay healthy..:D

Any word on the Grammar Brothers?
Okeefe & Wood did they play?

Wood had one of those "don't tackle me" bibs on, I'm not sure why he seemed to move well. Got a bit of the footy and looked promising. O'Keefe was very quiet, got very little touches.
