Is Higgins' kicking now an issue? From all that I've heard this year in practise matches and the NAB game his reports were glowing but with the downside that his disposal was lacking. We have always thought of him as a skillful finisher so what's going on?

Yes he is a skillful player in fact very skillful except in the practice game and nab game I saw him play this year he chooses to stab the football 2 meters of the ground at a pace of 200km. Some pay off and some don't but lets hope he makes the right decideion in when he actrually goes for the kick.

Can't help thinking that Aker & Eagleton may be used in tandem as burst players this year. Would be pretty difficult to match them up if both ran hard for 10-15 minutes per quarter, created/converted a couple of chances each, rotating off the bench.
Any possibility?

Higgins was very impressive in the practice match. The additional strength he has this year showed as he was able to easily brush aside some of the smaller blokes in the team. Was also impressed with Lynch, Roughead and Stack out of the young guys. Lynch looks like an athlete and was everywhere during the game. Must have improved his athleticism out of sight. Looking forward to this year as some of these guys show what they've been drafted for.

The funny thing about intra-club games is that for every guy who plays well, someone (ie his opponent) obviously doesnt play well. I'd love to know who was playing on Roughead and Cordy. They got their butts kicked by 18 year olds (one of whom is 77kg!).

Also who was playing on Higgens, Griffen and the rest of the guys who ran around doing whatever they liked??

Great that these guys killed it, but also keen to find out who struggled.

Mulligan was on Roughead and Boumann was on Cordy.

Roughead's 3 goals weren't as good as some people make out.

1 was a ruck free
1 was Joe the Goose
1 was a soft chest mark in the square (dreadful attempt from Mulligan)

so Mulligan's not looking so hot. Why was Boumann playing back?? He look like he's developed at all?? I thought he was our key forward of the future.

Who said Mulligan wasn't looking so hot? He put in one very poor effort that gave his opponent a soft goal but neither of Roughead's other two goals had anything to do with Mulligan.

Boumann played back early in the season last year and was pretty bad at it. Perhaps they're trying it to help his development. We are fairly light on for tall defenders when Lake retires, a 6' 5" KD ready to step up would be nice.

The mystery player who wore the number 1 jumper for the blue team was Dylan Joyce - ex Calder Cannons b&f 2008 - now signed with Williamstown.

Scores of supporters sitting in the old Whitten stand during the practice match wondered out loud who is that kid? His poise and performance was extra-ordinary with an accurate left foot, and good speed, he can seriously play and should be on an AFL list.

If there is any way to rooky him the bulldogs should waste no time because someone will.

With all due respects to all the other excited reviews of our youngsters, this fellows effort out shone the lot of them.

I would be interested in others perceptions

PS- I am in no way related to him.

Unfortunately for Dylan he's a dwarf.
