If Lynch did get a game, at who's expense would it be. Can't see him in the side very much at all this year.

You would hope that, unless Eagle goes to another level, he is phased out over the year to allow the gradual blooding of a replacement.

With the emergence of Shaw and potentially Roughead ready to play if needed, was the resigning of Skipper a mistake?

On the excitement about young prospects, i'm really happy with the progression of these young future players.. But there is still a lot work before we start getting overly excited.

No I don't think it was.

It wasn't known some 4 months ago when Wayde was re-signed who we were going to draft, how these draftee's would develop & how Shaw (who only played Willi 2's last year) would develop over the pre-season.

That is the worry this stupid rule of only playing 10-11 bulldog listed players in WILLY seniors and the rest on our list in the magoos
I only hope SHAW , CORDY. ROUGHEAD all start in WILLY seniors, these 3 are best prospect i have seen at the club since QUINLAN TEMPLTON AND GRANT.

Aren't you the comedian.

It is known that the coaching staff hold Lynch's qualities in high regard. If he can get himself fit and find some early season form he may well find himself in the team and therefore might turn out to be a smart investment.

Isn't that the case with most players on our list pushing for a game ?

I'm a little disappointed in the 'reports' here guys. I wasn't going to write one because I only saw the first 3 quarters but I'll give it a crack to fill in for those who missed all of it.

M.Lynch - He really did look the part. Looks very composed and was involved frequently. A few skill errors but also a few gems. Hopefully he's moved on from his 2008 season.

Stack - Was also impressive. Hard to comment on him as I haven't really been following his progression over the last 2 years but it seems he has poor decision making. Brilliant at making the contest but almost shits himself when he has it. In saying that, the few times he either got caught or hand balled to nobody/opposition he was chasing it down again. 10 points for endeavor and looks fit as a fiddle.

Griffen - A Class above. Seriously a class above. Considering the personal hardship for him over the last 2 weeks he looked like something special out there. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in Mike Sheahan's top 10 come the end of the year.

J.Grant - faded in and out of the game, I'm still not sure if he'll be ready this year to play a role but i don't doubt he will in the future. The problem is he's not what we need. YET. He's got talent and that will be honed but he's not the type of forward we have been craving.

Giansiracusa - I still cannot believe the odd doubters out there. He's constantly barking orders and leading from the front. Took a ripper of a mark on the wing when he cannoned in to Eagleton and fell heavily. His desire and leadership cannot be questioned. I'll be the first to admit he will never be in the class of a Cooney or Griffen but he is what you need to fill your 22 players with to win a flag.

Cross - Was everywhere again. He did make some kicking errors as usual but that's a skill that rarely improves after the age of 22. What you see is what you get with Crossy and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the All-Australian squad.

Higgins - Been covered all pre-season but he's taken big leaps since moving in to the midfield - get excited people. I can't wait to see Cross, Boyd, Coons, Griff and Higgo rotating through the midfield.

Addison - The forgotten man really. Was cemented in our best 22 during the first half of last season when we were leading the pack. Only injury slowed him down. He reminded us of why he was in the 22 at the praccy match. It'd be a brave man to suggest he won't line up round 1. Also seems to have improved his decision making and kicking skills - bonus!

Eagleton - Another frustrating game as a supporter. I say that because he was very good. People predicting his demise in the line up will be let down. He looks fitter then ever and wasn't holding back. If I had to give him some advice it would be to forget he even has a right foot and only use the left.

Everitt - Was wearing the 'don't hit me hard' bib again but is running around just fine. It really can't be long before we see him fully fit again. Isn't killing it but that's probably only due to he's modified pre-season. Still has a lovely raking boot and moves well for a bloke who's going to fill out like a Hummer.

Hargrave - I wrote this in the modified intra-club report a few weeks ago - he's been playing forward. Once again had the unfortunate task of Gilbee and was beaten by the AA defender. I thought we'd see him fwd against Essendon but I still think we'll see him wonder up there in the NAB challenge matches. It's worth the punt with so many backman options(Morris, Everitt, Williams, Lake, Callan, Addison ect ect).

Hill - Another player who dipped in and out of the game. Did do some good things though and doesn't appear to have added anything new to his game. If he could just hold those marks he'd be deadly. In saying that he is one of the players in our team that does take those marks. Will be looking to consolidate a place in the team this year - and there is a spot for him if he wants enough.

Picken Good find. I can't remember who he was tagging but he didn't take it easy. Is ready made and you'd think the first long term injury and Picken will be ready to go. In a way reminds me of the Tim Callan selection last year.

Welsh Started dubiously by dropping an absolute sitter but worked his way in the game. Sometimes looks lost and other times you think he might be able to snag 80+ goals in a season. If I was picking the team I'd be sitting him at FF every week and giving every opportunity to do just that.

Minson - Yeah, he creates a target but when it comes to contested marking he'd have to be behind Hill and Cross. Good on the lead for a bigger fella and worth sending down in the forward line for chunks of games as he did snag a few but his real value is still in the ruck.

Wight - The forward experiment is officially over. Played in defence and still looked out of sorts. The younger guys, of which I struggle to identify are as useful as him. Don't want to sound like a negative nancy but it would take a massive improvement for him to be retained on the list....although I said that about Skipper last year.

Skipper - The same as Wight really. Just treading water. Unlike Wight though he's clearly more ready then some of the younger guys and with Street gone I can understand why we kept him. Ironically though I'd prefer Street as the back up ruckman though(I still think Street wanted to retire -hence knocking back Brisbane in November - this may have saved Skip).

Cordy - I said he wouldn't play this year. I was wrong(Bigfooty would be a better place if people could admit this more often). The 2 hit outs I've seen him play he's looked good. Has more presence then he's frame suggests and has a knack for footy that can't be trained. I still don't think we'll see him make an impact until the next decade but there is no reason why he won't play games up forward this year.

Sure did. Running around like a little mad man again. I'm willing to proclaim him as 'my boy'. Cult hero written all over him. Still lacks skill but makes up for it in determination.

Yeah i love him to, i remember watching him for the murray bushrangers. Love his bursts out of the pack but would just shank the kick and miss his target or boot the ball long to no one really. Zieball would get a bit frustrated with him. Needs a lot of work

I watched the intra club game as well and for me Cordy, Roughead, Higgins and Griffen were the stand out performers. I was impressed with Shaw's work at the ruck and saw promising signs from Lynch.
Overall I thought we looked good for a February intra club game.
Come round 1 and we smash Freo (like we smashed Richmond in rd 1 of the '06 season) I'll be very excited. Until then I'll remain quietly excited.

I asked a friend of mine what the odds are for Griffen to win the Brownlow this year and Higgins to win it next year. He suggested they'd be long and I agree. Were it to happen it would be a nice return on investmet.

Nice write up Butane. Just quickly about the Hargrave going forward more because we have options down Back. I would have thought Gilbee would have been a better option to do that. More creative, good shot for goal and would also rack up alot of goal assist. The only thing is Hargrave has the height which we need down forward.

If Griffen does a 'cooney' and higgins can replace Eagleton as a starting midfielder, we will have one kick arse midfield. On Eagleton - we all know he thrives in a low pressure environment, and at his age, the package we get from him in the last 3 seasons is exactly what we are going to get from him again this year - its just up to one of the kids to take his spot.

Cordy - I said he wouldn't play this year. I was wrong(Bigfooty would be a better place if people could admit this more often). The 2 hit outs I've seen him play he's looked good. OK, Butane, I will endevour to admit when you are wrong more often. Since you think it will improve BigFooty

Which was what last Friday was, he was given a lot of space by his opponent and he was able to pick up kicks at will. His disposal still wasn't what you would hope for by an 'outside' player.

The same could be said (given lots of space) of Higgins who picked up alot of touches across HB, but his effectiveness by foot was disappointing.

Is Higgins' kicking now an issue? From all that I've heard this year in practise matches and the NAB game his reports were glowing but with the downside that his disposal was lacking. We have always thought of him as a skillful finisher so what's going on?
