Re: InVisyble Judd

Is the NAB one of Geelong's sponsors?

Is Visy one of Carlton sponsors?

That's why it's an issue.

Chris Judd - when I was at West Coast I was sponsored by Medibank Private who was a club sponsor, I was sponsored by Puma, who was also a club sponsor, so...

It's all in your head. Every club does deals like this and lots of players have ambassador roles. Which is no doubt the reason why the AFL ticked it off in the first place.

It's interesting that he doesn't actually do very much for it. It's dodgy.

Re: InVisyble Judd

It is still amusing that a swathe of no 1 draft picks, and paying Juddy Visy dollars under the table still enabled Carlton to finish 11th last year.

FFS that's below Richmond's spiritual ladder position!

Re: InVisyble Judd

When carlton's younger brigade start asking for more cash, how much wriggle room will the blues have to keep them happy?

If I was a Gold Coast recruiter, I'd be spending a bit of time analysing the blue's salary situation and preparing a few offers.

Re: InVisyble Judd

No surprises he went to the Gold Coast, smart move by Hodge to switch clubs when he was past his best and take them for a 5 year deal.

He's really put Gold Coast over a barrel.

The future is here for you Podgey;)

Re: InVisyble Judd

Surprise surprise Mark Robinson with another negative comment piece about Chris Judd!

Just another example of Mark Robinson's vendetta against Chris Judd.

Would love to know what Judd did to get Robinson offside.

This is the writer who doesn't put Chris Judd in Carlton's best players when he is considered BOG by everyone else.

This is the same writer that could not acknowledge the brave efforts Judd made to keep on playing against St Kilda whilst having a broken nose and choking on his own blood.

Still waiting on the Mark Robinson article questioning the legitimacy of www.matthewlloyd.com.au and www.jameshird.com.au.
He's just balancing out Robert Walls's unashamed man-love for Judd.

Re: InVisyble Judd

Those who think that high profile sports stars should be doing 40 hour weeks behind the scenes to justify extra roles and sponsorships, need to consider exactly what the company paying them is getting from the deal. Here's an example:

CARLTON'S star football recruit, Chris Judd, has already been dubbed the "Juddernaught", and it's little wonder.

Territory Resources, Australia's newest iron ore producer, has announced that Judd will be its new public face, and attend two youth football camps in the Northern Territory in October.

The result? Territory's share price surged almost 7% on the news, adding $19.1 million to the market value yesterday.

That should cover Judd's fee many times over.

Judd can get extra money anywhere. Attends 2 camps and rents out his image and gets a nice tidy sum for doing so. Win/Win for everyone concerned. With the Sustainability Centre being built at Visy Park and Carlton's ambition to be the greenest club and Judd's interest in the issue, it's not hard to see why it was a good fit. It's nothing that he wasn't doing with completely external sources anyway, just a personal interest, closer to home.

Hmmmm, if we are going to quote an article ODN, perhaps we best be not so selective about it when trying to deflect from a very valid thread.

"I also spoke at the Sydney Mining Club today, so that might have something to do with the share price rise," quipped Territory Resources chairman Michael Kiernan. "But I doubt it." Asked if Judd's management had negotiated a share and options deal for the AFL player to work for Territory, Kiernan said: "We're too stingy to give out shares and options. It was certainly an all-cash deal."

Surprise, surprise.

"We expect Chris to be there after Carlton's grand final celebrations are over," Kiernan told Full Disclosure.

You wouldn't want to be hanging by the balls waiting.

"One of the clinics will be held in Pine Creek, the town where our mine is."

Pine Creek is 220 kilometres south of Darwin and home to fewer than 600 people.

"The clinic will mainly be for the local Aboriginal kids. It's just a way for us to give something back to the local community, by getting someone who is a big hero like Chris Judd to spend some time with the kids there."

That's big of him, we actually do that stuff for free at Hawthorn. But there's always a price tag attached to the follickly challenged one.

Coincidence, of course ADDING to Chris Judd's busy business schedule is another function in Melbourne today.

Judd, and partner Rebecca Twigley, will be guests at Sketch in Docklands for the launch of the Visy Recycling Movement.

That this environmental cause is being funded by Visy Industries, the private company of Carlton FC president Richard Pratt is, we assume, just a co-incidence.

Re: InVisyble Judd

^^^

WhatAmITalkingAbout, I don't quite get your point about the all cash deal. It was an arrangement that has zero to do with the AFL, they can choose to pay him however they see fit. Naturally he would have to declare it to the ATO but that is not the point of this. Exactly what were you talking about?

The last paragraph had nothing to do with the Territory Resources gig. Not sure why you quoted it or why you think I should have.

Can you explain exactly how what I quoted deflected from this issue? It showed that Judd's involvement often has a dollar value in terms of profit for companies. It's a two way street.

Re: InVisyble Judd

The Tankers would love that.

Unfortunately for them it looks like yet another media beat-up.

Everyone's going to the Gold Coast apparently. ;)
well perhaps not the Freo boys

Re: InVisyble Judd

And what did he do for Medibank? What do most sportsmen do for their additional income? What did Buckley do for his Adidas money - a company who also sponsored Collingwood?

I mean think about it FFS. Are you guys seriously that naive that you expect him to have a 38hr a week role? The guy is payed that much beause he is Chris Judd the footballer... just like every other sports star in the world he actually does very little day to day.

Re: InVisyble Judd

Wear Adidas? That's good sponsorship.

There has to be a legitimacy in the money that is being earned. I was initially led to believe that he would be paid for giving keynote speeches, etc. This was ruled as legitimate because of Chris' purported interest in the environment.

If it was a club without Carlton connections there wouldn't be an issue; they can spend their money as they wish. But because it was VISY, and that was your price-fixing president's company, there will always be a cloud over Judd.

And rightly so.

Re: InVisyble Judd

Wear Adidas? That's good sponsorship.

So in the same sense all he has to do is have his mug on a few things recycling, the odd appearance and he's done his job relative to every other sportsman in the world.

Why is a different standard being applied in this case... just because some poeple have a Carlton/Judd hang-up?

Re: InVisyble Judd

Show me this.
In the same sense he has to actually advertise the brand. People have to actually associate him with Visy through direct and prominent endorsement.
How is his work for Visy helping them sell their cardboard boxes or whatever the **** they even make? Do you contend he is bringing in more money to Visy than they pay him? Do you even bother contending it's Visy paying him at the end of the day?

Apart from this furphyesque "moneyface" endorsement explanation, he would also actually be required to put in weekly hours of work to hold down his role as environmental ambassador were the whole thing not so obviously a rorter's ruse.

Are Territory Resources in anyway connected with Visy or the CFC?
Sounds like he might have actually done a job for them... assuming the stocks of "Australia's newest iron ore producer" wasn't in the process of "surging" already...
