Is Brisbane the worst top two side ever?

Theyre a very mediocre team. Rate them on par with my average team.

They played all season in Queensland so of course they finished top 2. Same thing with Port playing at home all year.

Not that it matters as it will be the biggest asterisk flag of all time.
A Melbourne supporter actually hanging s$&t on another club. Unbelievable. Just slither back to your hole like every other year come finals time. Come back again next year with some false hope.

I can’t believe anyone could knock the lions after two solid seasons

That’s consistency rather than luck

Brisbane have certainly been gifted a ridiculous set of advantages this season.

And even taking into account their lack of travel, lack of hub disruptions to their routine and consistent home crowd advantage, their record flatters them because they got away with the points in every game they played which was decided by less than two goals, including three decided by less than a kick- you can say that shows they performed in clutch situations, but the truth is any game decided by a goal chance plays a big part and you're lucky to split them. Those results go the other way and Brisbane are about 7th. Or an equitable amount of travel and they are about 7th. Instead they've been effectively gift wrapped a double chance and three home finals including the big one for simply being a decent middle of the road side.

The fact that Geelong and Richmond both gave them a convincing beating, on the road underlines their weakness against high quality opposition even with all the dice massively weighted in their favour.

I think if placed under pressure in a prelim, they will sh*t the bed again- deep down their players must know they don't really deserve to be there.
I have read some s$&t in big footy but this is up there. The three games decided by a kick- North kicked a goal
after the siren to make it within a kick, Melbourne lead Brisbane for 4 MINUTES in that entire match-gee we were lucky and St Kilda-good side and we nearly kicked ourselves out if it, just lucky I guess. We lost to Richmond and Geelong, we must be no good.!! Not as if they are good teams....🤪 Just say what you really mean your just another SALTY West Coast supporter because you did not get the finals. Get over it and stop with your unfounded puss argument.

Brisbane has been consistently good for 2 years now. The ladder doesn't lie.

It doesn't lie but it does mislead.

Last year they had a soft fixture and close results went their way.

This year they've had an even softer fixture and had a lot of close results (against bad teams) go their way. Not to mention the beltings dished out by Richmond and Geelong.

You're free to put some coin on Brisbane if the ladder doesn't lie champ

So main point people bring up is we have a lot of close wins so we must have been lucky. Surely you realise that it is only a small part luck and most part good football. 2018 we had quite a few close games, the majority of which we lost. 2019 we also had quite a few close games, the majority of which we won. 2020 we had a few close games and we won them all. After 2018, we specifically trained for those close games and the results are there for anyone to see.

Whats the excuse next season when we are right up there again?

No. They are a solid team with a good blend of experience and youth. They have an outstanding midfield and some individuals who can turn a game (Cameron, Neale, Andrews). What might hold them back is that some of their key players have stagnated or gone backwards: Hipwood (zero confidence), Rayner (still not fit), Rich (looks old).

If they beat Richmond, they might go all the way. That's a big if.

Interesting stat from swamp here. Port's percentage against the top 8 interested me, as it is 40% below the final percentage they finished with. Ours is pretty good and we have the best record against the top 8, but with 2 big losses to geelong and Richmond.

Objectively, taking into account that we have had a good fixture this year I think we are comfortably in the top 5. Let's say we lose v the Saints and even North (though it was a 7 point margin until a goal after the siren, so wasn't a one score game until after time expired), and maybe lose one other - we'd still be on 44 points, in outright 5th.

I bet if you went back through the records of the top teams over the years you could make all sorts of similar calculations (Port won quite a few closeish games this year as well). But even if you looked at our wins on expected score, we'd be in the same position - because all of the close games we nearly lost were close because of historically poor goalkicking (I read somewhere that it is the worst since 2000). That's something you can knock the team on.

I think this is a pretty fair comment but the specific critiques of players are a bit outdated. Hipwood and Rayner are in their best form over the last 6 weeks, and Rich does not look old and probably polled brownlow votes in multiple games this year. Having said that, I'd say there are plenty of things to point to as to why we won't go all the way. I have us winning a final but bowing out in a prelim.

I think Tom14 said most of it:
Hipwood: Would agree, however the last month or so has really come on and just seemed to click. Leading up to the ball aggressively and clunking marks.
Rayner: Consistency might be an issue, however has done pretty well recently. Just last week, he got 2 goals but more importantly laid 7 tackles and a heap of blocks for teammates.
Rich: Couldn't disagree more, l was hoping he would be in the AA squad. Getting much better with age, taking marks, kicking really well and preventing his opponent from kicking goals. Also kicked 2 goals last week.

We won the wooden spoon in 2017, and now only 3 years later have two top-2 finishes to go with it. Also 4th youngest list in terms of average age and games played. We may not win it all this year, but you can bet we’ll be up the top for years to come

Neale, Cameron and Chris fagan have made a huge difference! They still have a few "battlers" like most teams, but as long as they stick to their structures, which requires leadership and workrate, they can go far.

When was the last time a team went out in straight sets in consecutive years?
That would require the same team to be in the top 4 in consecutive years. Besides even if we do lose against Richmond, we would be playing either Saints or Dogs iirc. I would back ourselves to beat both since we have already done so.

There has never been anyone ever who has called someone ‘champ’ and not sounded like a complete flog. Champ......really?🙄

It’s mainly just middling team supporters, riddled with jealousy. They hate that we beat their junk teams even when we miss most of our shots and barely raise a sweat. It’s incredibly sad really. 😂
