I think it doesn't make a massive difference if we give away pick 1 and keep pick 3. We are going to still pick up a gun. Ok we need a ruckman but many clubs (ie Hawthorn) have shown it is not the end of the world.

Maybe if we give them pick one, we will be able to keep Kennedy which I prefer.

Also Judd is worth giving away a pick 1 so I would ask WCE what they want and say 'well will give you pick one, but you won't be getting Kennedy, etc.

it has to end somewhere and the Blues have said no to pick 1 and at least that starts negotiations

even if we gave eagles pick 1 they still want another pick!

they dont call the shots, we do. if we dont get Judd we still get 2 of the best young players in the draft!!

to secure arguably the best player to ever play the game in Judd - carlton should be offering pick #1 & 3. No players, no pick 20s etc. 2 top 10 picks is fair for judd.

If WC throw in pick 14 I'd take it. We could still use that pick to get Bellchambers.

what about this one..

Carlton get : Judd & Pick #30
WC get: Pick #1 & Pick #3

I personally cant see WC wanting to give up their pick 13 selection.

13 would mean nothing to them if they got picks 1&3.

But we wont be stupid enough to trade away both of these. Its a shallow draft, but theres still some unbelievable players at the top end. We need one of them to help secure our future. If we give them away we are effectively missing out on one draft as the later picks have less of a chance of becoming players

yes, but you are getting Chris Judd, perhaps he has anyone in the Top 10 picks covered for both talent and potential?

yes, he is chris judd, but he's halfway through his career. We need to keep pumping young players into the team. Very important that we hold onto one of our high picks IMO.

This type of logic is exactly the reason why Carlton have been in it current position for the last five years, as much as we want Judd, if the decision came down to giving away both pick 1 & 3, we need to take a long term view and maintain those picks for our long term future, one player is not going to make us a premiership team, you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
Pick3 is available to suggest pick 1 & 3 is crazy.

If we were to give away pick one (which wouldn't bother me), we would not give away pick 3. If they want pick one (which they do) the eagles will have to make concessions (ie no Kennedy). We won't give away 1 &3, it will be just one of those.

We also have to remember that Carlton and WCE have a good working relationship and they would know we are not dumb enough to give up both,

Listen you guys here's what you do to secure judd.
Remember judd is out of contract so the eagles cannot be too pushy.
But carlton may have to sacrifice fevola.
Carlton approach west coast and say we will only give you pick 3 and one player (maybe bower,or kennedy) THAT'S IT.Take it or leave it.
Carlton approach richmond and may have to sacrifice Fevola for pick 2.Richmond are interested in fevola and if a trade was to happen richmond would sacrifice pick 2 for him.
Then carlton own pick,1,2,3.
Chris judd goes into the draft and because the blues own the first three picks Judd will fall to carlton, and carlton will retain first 3 picks plus judd and kennedy, carlton lose Fevola to richmond and West Coast get sweet FA.
Then the only problem you'll have is that judd will have no one to kick it too,so you pick up kpp players next year when you tank it again.HAHA !!!!!Shite if guys put in another year like this year with judd in your team your deserve to wooden spooners for the next few yaers.Take a leaf from our book our youngsters came on and basically carried the pies this year, one kick away from a grand final and if we can get a good ruckman look out .TANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!

Funkalicious is closer to the mark. 1 & 3 for Judd and 14 is a two for two deal. 1, 3, 20 & Kennedy for Judd and 14 is a two for four deal. It looks good on paper, but it is overly ambitious, and requires us to find 3 list spots (Kennedy takes Judd's) before we use any of our own draft picks.

No. My trade was better. No club could possibly beat that. - Not in a million years!

Pick #1, #3, #20 and Kennedy (if Eagles want him) for Judd and pick #13

By the by, here is a decades worth of 1 & 3, with 13 in brackets.

2006 Gibbs & L Hansen (J Riewoldt)
2005 M Murphy & Ellis (Hurn)
2004 Deledio & Griffen (Bate)
2003 Cooney & Sylvia (Stanton)
2002 Goddard & J Brennan (Schammer)
2001 Hodge & Judd (Dal Santo)
2000 Riewoldt & Didak (A Mcgrath)
1999 Fraser & Fiora (R Murphy)
1998 Headland & Fosdike (Lamb)
1997 Johnstone & Croad (C Chambers)

It isn't about what is fair. Judd will not go at his market price.

^^^^

I think that is probably the most equitable deal I've seen as well. You still have 2 picks in the top 20 and don't lose Kennedy or Bower. We get to make our own choices as to how best to replace Judd.

I acknowledge it's a mute point but if Judd was still contracted the asking price would most likely be 3 top ten picks. So it is less than his true worth but closer to a fair deal rather than one of actual worth.

Yes I know my opinions count for SFA

l can see your point but if our recruiting staff rate pick1 maybe Kreuzer significantly higher than pick 3 maybe Morton or whoever then on that basis, l think it is wrong for us to give up pick 1, l think most of the people on this forum expect the deal to be done quickly, remember the trade period has not even began and everyone is going into panic mode.

Carlton need to hold their nerve and not carve in and we need further young talent, EQUALLY as much as getting Judd.
