Is North Melbourne passing on Logan McDonald going to be the 2021 version of the Bulldogs passing on Buddy for Ryan Griffin

You only got him because we are a triple premiership team with salary cap pressure and you are a perennial cellar dweller with cash to spare.
You also had to promise to play him in his choice of position which is unheard of.

LOL.

Also, recruiting frustrated players by promising them opportunity in the spot they prefer is old as the hills.

CCJ is a natural forward imo but now you have to play him in the ruck.
What is yr opinion on that?

He looked bloody good beating Goldy and palming down expertly to ... Will Phillips ... in one passage I saw today.

Carlton, Essendon and St Kilda are also responsible. Be grateful and bow your heads when you talk about your lords and saviours.
Didn’t Essendon have the most financially favourable package (probably meant the other 3 had to carry more costs)

It will prove a masterstroke by the Roos once he announces he wants to come to Collingwood and fulfil his dreams.

I suppose it makes sense for random people to have more realistic dreams, and dreaming of playing for Collingwood is far more realistic than dreaming of playing for a good team.

You pretty much only need your Dad to have played there and you automatically get a list spot.

Annoying because I am going to feel the need to come here and defend McDonald. I would prefer this thread not exist at all as North had reasons to pick Phillips.
you don't need to defend mcdonald, no one's questioning that he looks like a get and will be a good player. it's just a shot at will phillips.

Yes but if Phillips becomes really good and McDonald has a down patch this thread becomes an attack on McDonald.
i don't think so, i think it just becomes a really stupid, way too early call on two very promising players.

actually, it's already that.

Well it’s literally a thread bagging Phillips at this stage.

As of right now, this very moment, if you were North and could swap Phillips for McDonald, would you do it?

99 north fans out of 100 wouldn’t do it.

Reality is that we don’t know how it will turn out, but in answer to the OP, it would be unlikely North will regret it as much as the dogs passing on Buddy.

Its not about having a go at McDonald. As you say we had reasons to pick Phillips. He will show people why he went that high soon enough and we wanted as many good mids as we could get.

I don't normally buy this "go home factor" stuff either. You're a young bloke playing professional footy... you're just as likely to enjoy Sydney or Melbourne as want to return to a small pond. And if a club builds a potentially successful side with a good bond between the players and good culture then it can become a new home for a young player. The Swans seem to do okay with that. (I do wonder if McMartin is some sort of insurance against that McDonald leaving tho.)

Watching Larkey in the intra-clubs the last fortnight, I am 100 per cent comfortable in saying that if Logan McDonald ends up as good as Nick, the SWans will be very very happy.

Liam Picken disagrees (thankfully for us)

True, that was a while ago though.

You've done well with clubs not taking on their f/s opportunities ... Josh Dunkley too.

Malthouse actually attended a Williamstown game where Liam was playing. He pointed him out as a player he liked and was told 'he's one of ours, Billy's son. We're not taking him because he's too scrappy'.
Every club has a few they pass on though. Bulldogs passed on both MacPhersons, and Darcy Mac is forging a decent enough career for himself at the Suns.
