Is North Melbourne passing on Logan McDonald going to be the 2021 version of the Bulldogs passing on Buddy for Ryan Griffin

Watched Will Phillips today.

Wasn't impressed one bit and was actually surprised how poor he was considering the pump up on this thread.

2nd year player though and could be the case of 2nd year blues coming up.

Second year player getting pumped probably not the best light of him

No it's definitely not.

But they had a first year player in Paul Curtis who showed far more and was pretty exciting across half forward. I really took notice of his display today.

Charlie Lazzaro was another who showed some really exciting traits and was willing to take the game

Jason Horne Francis looked like a 200 gamer today. Played like he had been playing for 10 years. No surprise.

Will Phillips on the other hand.....

Phillips will be an elite 250 game player for North, so many experts so keen to sonk the boots into a young kid/high draft pick (from any club) hoping they fail, as some kind of childish gloat at the club that drafted him

This is what I hate about the online footy community
.

Saints should have offered more for Tristan Xerri.

Every kid drafted I'm the first round is predicted to be a 250+ game player from his own teams supporters

It goes both ways

True but I saw enough from Phillips last season to know he has all the tools and ability to be a quality player in this league for a long time.

If North felt they couldn't retain McDonald after his first contract expires is just sensible list management from them as well, why waste 2 years developing and getting games into a player who was going to leave anyway?

But the point remains, some fans just want high draft picks to fail, for some petty reason.

Probably a good idea by North to pass on McDonald if the rumors of a 10-year deal being offered to entice him back home are true!

But the wild speculation has taken on an added layer of legitimacy given Sydney officials are telling people McDonald’s manager Ben Williams had informed the Swans that another club is willing to present that deal.

Williams on Monday denied another club was willing to offer a 10-year contract. Williams also denied telling Sydney that there was.

I rate Phillips, but personally I would have taken Denver Grainger-Barras at that pick.

What I think was more surprising, if North really thought a mid in Phillips was the best player/need at that pick, they should have placed a bid on Campbell who I rated higher. That bid effectively would have ensured the Swans didn't get a free hit in McDonald

The Roos were thoroughly baffling in how they played out their draft pick. They didnt take the key forward they needed, and ended up taking a midfielder who was rated behind Campbell who would have been matched by the Swans anyway.

You do have to wonder what clubs say to eachother when deciding whether to bid on academy or F/S players.

I think you can manufacture a forward line, the De Goey types are difficult matchups, and having Larkey, Xerri, Edwards then targeting CCJ, they have ample KPF options. As for genuine KPDs, McKay only, as i see Corr more as a 3rd tall

I don't think Campbell was rated higher than Phillips. Most draft rankings had Phillips ahead.
