There are 3 teams in the AFL that have Blue and White colour schemes. Never seemed to be a problem.
But do they all wear them in the same pattern? I didnt think I'd need specify the vertical stripes bit but seems there are two of you who couldn't grasp that the jumpers were too similar.
The point is Port agreed to change the name and colours as a condition of entry to the AFL so there is no reneging on that now.
This only in reference to wearing it every showdown btw. Didn't realise it was a 150 year game as well.

Ahhh Damo, you dickhead.

Good to see you’re reading BigFooty again though champ

Guess what? He repeated this today.

Seems Damo didn't have that Sliding Doors moment where the train leaves and he steps out onto the tracks.

I love this thought of "knew the rules when you came in so no reneging now"

We've had teams change names, nicknames, grounds, cities, guernsey designs...
Collingwood started off in 1892 in diagonal stripes even.
We all know that Collingwood is Collingwood, and tradition matters when it's benefits them, and it doesn't matter when it benefits them. As the AFL's biggest Vic club the AFL will never push them on anything and the media will never call them out on their hypocrisy.

We should just accept it, and then move on.

The Showdown should always be Saturday Twilight at Adelaide Oval. The perfect timeslot for families and would bring in a lot of viewers if it was broadcast nationally on FTA. Friday night doesn't work logistically and doesn't bring in as much money to the city from people having lunch/dinner and drinks before the game.

As a Saints fan im happy for the exposure but realistially it was a nothing game before the start of the season. The Showdown should be on FTA across the country Saturday night.

Also (since this Port v Crows thread is now a Magpies pissing contest) IF The Pies believe that their white jumper is a significant enough change from their black jumper to be called a 'clash' jumper (and I actually agree) then why not revert back to that full time? It's a better looking jumper to be honest.

Also if we can have Hawks and Eagles then we can have Magpies and Mudlarks.

Did anyone ever change their colours/pattern or nickname to the same as another team already in the league?

Did any traditional club ever join the AFL? I don’t think anyone’s wanting the nickname. Most major professional leagues in the world (EPL, NFL etc.) seem to have no problems with teams bigger than Collingwood wearing the same colours. Will Man Utd and Arsenal object if Middlesborough or Nottingham Forest get promoted to the EPL? The monopoly on black and white claimed by Collingwood is bizarre and at the end of the day it’s not their call, it’s the AFL’s.

I know they’re in the business of clickbait, but there’s plenty of other bullshit to write about, this one is really strange. You can only conclude he actually thinks it’s a good idea, which is probably a heads-up as to what’s going on between his ears.

How good is the Showdown?? Can it be improved??

Let’s think... well they could move it to Melbourne. Those 55,000 people that provide the atmosphere, that’ll get rid of them.

Good one!

The AFL doesn't need to have teams with the same colours and patterns it doesn't have promotion/relegation and there are few enough teams to have unique design/colour combos.
Power can't have their cake and eat it too. The conditions of entry were change name and colours and they agreed.
It's not Collingwood who are stopping you going back the AFL don't want you in the prison bars either.

Last time I checked the NFL doesn’t have promotion or relegation either. Not only do teams wear the same colours, teams often change them over time (e.g. Patriots changing from red to blue). Some AFL teams still clash despite limited numbers, unique designs and colour combos. The NFL, and other leagues like major European soccer leagues, manage it because they have long accepted the need for clash strips that are a complete contrast to their home strip. The AFL will get there one day.

Port didn't join the NFL, so why bring them up?
