This was discussed On the Couch a couple of months ago. Where does this Hawthorn forward-line sits in history? We are the highest scoring team and have the most options up forward. When one player has a quiet one, another pop-ups.

Our line up consists of:

HF: Gunston Franklin Puopolo
F: Rioli Roughead Breust (Lewis running through as a powerful damaging midfielder)

During the year they kicked;
Franklin 66 goals
Bruest 43 goals
Roughead 41 goals
Rioli 39 goals
Gunston 37 goals
Lewis 27 goals
Puopolo 24 goals

Add to that the potential of Hodge who can sit forward and worry an opposition like some of the best forwards in the game.

With a potential all-time great in Franklin and champion elite players in Roughead, Rioli, Lewis, Hodge this forward-line is one of the best we have seen for a while. It comfortably beats anything Geelong had, and rivals the great Brisbane forward-line of Brown, Lynch, Bradshaw.

Will it be remembered as an all time great line-up?

Is it a bloody good forward line? Without a doubt

But for it to be remembered as one of the all-time great they need to win some flags together.

And there's the reasonable answer. They've been great for most of the year but nearly cost us a Grand Final spot with some woeful conversion. If they can stand up in a Grand Final and win against one of the best defending sides going, then they can at least come into consideration.

Seriously, Hawthorn's scores come from a dominant midfield who just keep it in their forward half and score.

Now, if you asked midfield - I'd probably concede that to you. But forward line? No, just taking advantage of other people's dominance.

Its amazing how simple minded people here can be, one poster must surly speak for the hawthorn community, if reading comments on threads such as this angers you so much maybe you shouldn't bother using the internet, its rather pathetic/petty... and so is trolling looking for a nibble which is exactly what the op wanted.

Some pretty handy goal kickers there and maybe one of the best.

Buckanara, Dunstall, Curren, Brereton and Hall all handy too. Throw in Platten, Anderson, Morrisey, Abbott etc from 88-90 era and they still have some catching to do, especially with accuracy.

i would take the eagles 2013 forward line over it any day, hands down

You really shouldn't have prefaced that post with "Seriously".

Any forwardline with Puopolo is not even a premiership forwardline let alone an all time great forwardline. If Hawthorn get up on the weekend then Sydney should be ashamed of themselves for letting a suburban footballer (at best)win a premiership medal.

To answer the last question first - NO. And to say it "comfortably" beats anything Geelong had is plain ignorant. Geelong didn't have a Buddy in 2007 - 2011, but it still had multiple goalkickers. In 2008 there were 5 over 30, including 2 over 50, so how you can say "comfortably" better than Geelong. And I would not be so arrogant to suggest Geelong's forward line was anything special.

WTF would a Collingwood supporter know about forward lines?

What a shame Richmond missed out on the finals this year... again...

Too embarrassed to start a thread about the team you really support?
