I don't want to rain on your parade, but like chunkylover53 mentioned you almost lost to the Crows (16th), North (18th), Suns (12th), Giants (15th), Hawks (13th) while also losing to WC (17th). Not to mention that if results were switched in games that were decided by under a goal, Collingwood would be sitting 12th on the ladder.

Obviously that's a mighty effort to currently sit 6th on the ladder, but I can definitely see you next year doing an Essendon from 2021-22.
How are you tonight? Hang in there mate, tomorrows another day!

Not defensive in the slightest.
Just an odd appraisal.
GWS and Crows should be expected wins (doesn't mean they will, but we should go in favourites).
Lions and Dees are obviously penciled in as losses (same as above - could steal a win in either, but will go in underdogs).
And yes, I would have Pies as 50/50. Despite your good form, you have only just scraped a few wins against lesser teams and we should hopefully be pretty close to full strength this time, so I'd be a lot more confident than our last meeting.

So, I agree with your summary, with the exception of the Crows one, which stands out as odd. A lot of people thought our game against WC over there was going to be 50/50 too. It's 7th vs 16th. We beat them comfortably this year at Marvel, without Pitto who should be back by then.
It's been 10(?) games since we played them and they've only beaten North and WC. Losing 4 from 5 at home. They lost at home to the Pies by 5 points. Everything else has been pretty much 30+ point losses. I understand the recency bias of having just watched your team scrape over the line against them though.
My summary was correct,

Thanks for letting my team scrape over the line once more

In 2021 the Blues went 2-5 to finish the season after a good win against Freo (including losses to North and Gold Coast) when finals looked a chance

In 2022 the Blues went 2-6 to finish the season after a good win against Freo when finals looked a certainty.

Looking forward to an off-season of Carlton posters once again shitting on about how they have a premiership list and that 2023 will be their year.

Collingwood only beat the Crows by 5 points at Adelaide Oval in round 18. It wasn't an easy away fixture towards the end of this season.

But didn't face Geelong, Melbourne or Brisbane until rounds 18, 21 & 22.
5 points is a big win for us!

Short answer: yep.

We have the pleasure of losing out on the top 8 because of a 1 point loss to the worst top 4 team in history. A 104% top 4 team is laughable. Worse than Port in 11th! A 16-6 team that when you look under the hood is basically an 11-11 team.

Crushing to go out that way but it's a lesson and in a way it was its own final. It will be valuable experience for 2023. I am confident we can take another step in our development and be a better team next year.

I say we let them beat Freo in Round 1 next year and let the season fall away nice and early

Na tis better to see the cocky bastards believe their own pre-season hype, and then fall flat again.

Never gets old.
Without wanting to detract from the sentiment of the bumped thread, I think they’ll be better for the run next season. Depth a concern but moreso for any side when you have to battle injuries and there were a number of bodies wheeled out this season for Carlton that you could scarcely argue were any more than that.

Even without a more fortuitous run they’ve got a pretty good spine, pretty decent ruck options and an excellent midfield. I’d rather they lose round 1 and just keep on losing because despite today’s outcome they’ll be a pretty legitimate prospect next season.

I don’t like saying that :(

Will be a 9-12 team again.

List has gaping holes everywhere.

But I cant wait to read about Martin, Williams, McGovern playing more than a dozen games next year.

Paddy Dow will be ready to explode again I bet too.

Same old Carlton, still recovering from SOS' botched period in charge of the list.

Carlton will comfortably beat the Pies this week.

Nice to double down after stating we wouldn't win more than 8 games

There seems to be a lot of faith in the coaching ability of Voss here, insofar as trusting him to turn this crushing defeat (or rather, crushing month) into motivation.

Could just as easily break the group IMO

IMO Voss is a major part of the problem.

He's got an amazing talent pool, including real game breakers, which is an amazing resource for an incoming coach.

Most first year coaches take a while to assess talent, teach a game plan and, as a result, their teams start slowly and build. The opposite has happened with Voss at Carlton and it really looks he got great buy in early, but then other clubs worked out his game plan, and he couldn't counter their response.

He's never been the sharpest tool in the shed and regularly gets out-coached on game day. His team doesn't have consistent application or the ability to change tempo during a quarter. Firing the team up during a break can't be your only coaching tactic on game day.

Personally, I hope he stays at Carlton for years.

Ya gotta laugh really (otherwise you'd cry!)

Said after the Adelaide loss when the writing was on the wall, will be interesting to see how they respond next year, could see it going either way. Thought we'd get nowhere near Melbourne or Collingwood, almost worse in a way to finally play with some spirit and still come up agonisingly short. The boys would be utterly shattered currently.

Still, only have themselves to blame. That Adelaide game just had to be won, and it was probably the most insipid effort of the season.

Until the Blues learn to play 4 qtrs like the top teams and not just one then we might start improving
Yep, been an issue all year. Amazing 3rd, but you ain't gonna win many games going goal-less for 2 quarters.
