There’s a difference between helping a little and Tex being blamed for not getting him. Luko and Rozee are top mates and will play together for 10 years. Port are a consistent finals team.

Tex will play for one more year. We haven’t played finals for 7 years.

There’s only so much Tex can say to try and sway him without looking like a dodgy used car salesman like his coach.
But it's an advantage nonetheless, the only personal connection Cumming potentially has with Port is a guy that might (and I think will) sign with Collingwood

Clearly Port have most of the intangible advantages when it comes to performance, but we'd be remiss not to lean into using Tex as a key communicator and seller. Ultimately, being around someone Cumming knows and respects well should be integral to developing greater personal relationships within the club

Can someone tell me more about him?

He obviously hasn't had opportunity due to the stacked midfield ahead of him in GWS.

But is he a Rankine prospect, or is he a Hampton prospect?
That's two pretty far extremes :p

Running half back/wing, is athletic and skilled, hard at the ball and tackles well, competes overhead. Some soft tissue issues this year

So he's replacing Smith/Hamill?

He’s not a mid, he’s a half back who can intercept. About 90% as good as Jordan Clark this year who wouldn’t have been far off AA.

If we have any brains whatsoever we tell him he’ll never touch the wing and give him the keys to HB. Looks like we’ve blown it.

The other factor not considered is just what are our players saying about the club behind the scenes to friends, family and their managers. Tex is not an idiot. He has had 7 coaches in his career (Includes caretaker coaches), he has seen the best and the worst. Bottom line players talk. There is an external view of the club held by fans and members then there is the internal AFL reputation held by managers, AFL industry leaders, coaches and players. Im telling you, there is no way we come out smelling like roses right now to anyone.

From the moment Cumming's manager told the media that his decision would be in line with Port's exit from finals I've felt like they had the edge.

Even though it was likely him just being thorough.

Dawson met with Port after the finals. But once Dawson nominated Adelaide and the trade was done, he said that Adelaide was always his strong preferred destination

I do think there's an issue with the perception of the club.

We had Reid come out talking about how the club was supposedly going to be super aggressive during the trade period, so it's definitely been the club's intention to go hard at attracting players this year.

If we miss out on Cummings then some serious questions need to be asked. Reid has written cheques that the club clearly hasn't been able to cash and there would be no other way to frame it other than it being a massive failure.

Maybe the club needs to face the reality that until we can actually generate some excitement and belief on field that no-one is interested in coming to a dead end club that's being led by a mediocre coaching group.

How can we offer him mid time

Crouch (who was great when came back)
Dawson (legit A+)
Rankine (has sky high potential)
Soligio (looking great)
Berry (don't rate but coach love him)

Laird had to be even moved out to hbf
How do you think our midfield went this year compared to the opposition midfield?

Do you think it consistently won key metrics and helped us to win games?

Whether we get Cumming and a few others on trade week, has it been really a success when we have a whole list of players, better players at that who said no? The club does have huge problems. Port can target any player they like and they come running. We can't do that, even arguably when we have a better rounded list. So what's the problem? I think it's at this stage we can start to narrow down the issue and frankly, Nick's would have to be judged harshly on this. He is the one proudly part of the clubs PR about meeting potential recruits.

Once again, Nicks plays a role.... but the perception of the club has been like this much longer than his tenure. Helll think back to Sando.

Sounds to me like a sales pitch issue. We don't have industry leading people in this regard and lag way behind other clubs. Think a shit real estate agent...conditions you to take less money (or swalliw a burgess trade last year as being better than what it was) because they are incapable of getting you the best result. Get a really good agent and you get top wack. You only get one chance to really make an impression.

Berry only plays if crouch is out. Cannot see berry being in best 23 next year (moving to five on the bench by the sound of it in 2025)

How are Port able to afford bringing these guys in, and potentially retain Houston, within the salary cap? Their list is already stacked with plenty of high earners.
