Mid East Israel declare war after Hamas attack III

Its not really. Israel thinks its protecting its own people and land by invading others. North Korea oppresses and murders its own.
International Courts ruled that Israel is responsible for the Palestinians in the territory they occupy (West Bank and Gaza). Those people are not allowed to vote or even use the same roads.

They imprison children without charge, they kill children without charge. The only difference is that Israel only oppress and kill based on race. I'm not sure that's better than North Korea.

Both have nuclear weapons but don't sign up to non-proliferation treaties. That got North Korea sanctions, it got Israel as many bombs and missiles as they can drop. And it's mostly because Israel are white Europeans that they are excused in the eyes of the west as some sort of imaginary white colonising peace-maker.

It's like all the anti-genocide and anti-colonialism history lessons were were supposed to learn have not been learnt by the current crop of world leaders in the west. (Dutton and Abbott especially).

Like many of the elites, they are not attempting to learn anything. If they come upon information, they adapt it to suit their beliefs. You could argue that these two had their attitude to israel set decades ago, although I wouldn't be surprised that it has been modified over the years to enhance their careers.

I actually think that a lot of what is going on right now in world affairs is because there are very few people left who suffered the horror of WWII.

People who are willing to support the likes of Netanyahu and Trump and Co simply have zero understanding of what the implications of what they are doing are?

That is not say that previous generations were any more educated, but previous generations were petrified of their own lived experience. My grandfather took a sleeping pill at night for the rest of his life just to sleep - that was close to 60 years of sleeping pills.

I don’t want to get into a left v right debate on this, but I personally find the attitude of the politicians on the left to be worse than those on the right. They are the ones who are supposed to give a s*** but they don’t, they are enabling all of this just like the politicians on the right.

The enablers are mostly on the right - labor, lnp, democrats, republicans etc.

On the left, greens are anti war.

I don't think the politicians on the left are "worse", but they are held to a much higher standard.

Trump is absolute proof of this - he is not held to any standards at all. Dutton is not far behind.

Having said that Biden has been pathetic - Netanyahu laughs at his "red lines". Albanese has been massively disappointing.

Shows how much the ALP people just like to "play" politics. Being "friends of Palestine" when it means nothing, but as soon as they're asked to put up or shut up, they shut up and allow the killing to go on.

Wong is the worst for it. she's far more spineless than Albanese.

"Israel’s army has released fabricated dossiers framing us, the last remaining journalists in North Gaza reporting on Israel’s extermination and ethnic-cleansing campaign, as “terrorists”.

This blatant and belligerent attempt to transform us, the last witnesses in the north, into killable targets is an assassination threat and obvious attempt to preemptively justify our murder.

We would like to remind everyone that after murdering our colleague Ismail Al Ghoul, Israel released a document that claimed he supposedly received a military ranking on July 1, 2007, when he would have been a 10 year old child.

This public threat was made without any evidence and is part of a systematic propaganda campaign to justify the unjustifiable as Israel continues to target civilians in Gaza, including doctors, aid workers, children and us journalists.

We call on our colleagues and media institutions around the world to show their solidarity with us.

Despite these dangerous and untrue threats made against us, we remain committed to our profession and will continue to report the facts on the ground as the genocide regretfully continues unabated."

both have changed their viewpoints over time. don't underestimate the power of the israel lobby. or the weakness of politicians.

The previous generations had WW1 and then had WW2 twenty years later.

Neither biden or trump served in the military....trump famously had flat feet or something that his father's doctor was paid to come up with. Biden's son died of cancer which Joe believes he got from fighting overseas and Joe sends israel weapons to burn and kill palestinians......but they're only palestinians of course. Both biden and trump were born in or around WW2.

Make any sense that you like from this post. I just go back to old faithfuls like money, power and religion to explain why people kill others on mass....

Many of the major parties globally aren't actually 'left' politically at all. They're just less right, and pick up enough of what the voter base wants socially to get elected.

In the US the Dems would be further right than our LNP, and the Republicans are way, way right of anything in Australia. If Harris talked and behaved the way Trump did, she'd be immediately unelectable, yet from Trump it's all good because the right aren't held to the same standard as the 'left' - even though they're not actually left.

Lots of the economic ideas you'd have seen in the 1950s and 1960s would seem downright socialist today.

it's going to be interesting after trump becomes president.....i've just acquired a nuclear sub base down the road.... i expect to leave this life fairly early in the piece...

I guess that why the world needs Tim Waltz right? with all his military service and all.LOL

Maybe people of both the left and right can begin to see that you cannot trust any of them, not one. Because personal political ambition will always supersede representing the people. And its why i am actually more wary of the 'less left' parties like Labor and the Dems, because they talk a massive game humanitarian wise, but are really just full of shit and do pretty much the same as the 'more right' parties.

So you cant trust any of them, but you trust the "less left" parties less about humanitarian issues because the more right parties don't even mention them?

I think they "happen" to change a lot once they come into power.

I think in opposition it's easy to say you're idealistic and would do the right and moral thing. But as soon as they're in power and a lobby says they'll attack you if you do the moral thing, they fold like wet paper towels. Same as how they fold every time the media says they'll say something nasty about an ALP policy, they quickly shelve it.

Surely the lobby here isn't as strong though? They certainly don't have the votes or $$ to shift like the US AIPAC lobby does. The ALP are going to shed a whole bunch of voters in seats that the Libs are targetting. It'll put more of their seats at risk to independents.

I think it's the media more than the lobby. Murdoch hates dark people as much as Dutton does and his editors share his zeal for "white is right" geopolitics and history.

Please tell me how a voter might stop voting for Labor and vote for another party which is more positive about palestinians rights?

I ask this with the understanding that if a voter votes for Greens or independents in most lower house elections, the voter's real vote goes to the major party that they have preferred.

So if they vote Liberal ahead of Labor on the ticket, a Liberal MP will be voted in and Peter Dutton will be voted in.....
