Hang on, didn't i just read somewhere that the rebels are USA/Israeli backed or Turkish?
You deserve an award if you can make sense of Syria. Every regional power is somehow involved with links to various factions: US, Russia, Iran, Saudis, Turks, Israel, Iraq.

All sides shoot, gets bad for the locals caught in the crossfire.
Middle East mess.
Hope Joe and Kamala have their finger on the pulse, probably better having a direct line to Mar A Lago.

yeh especially those kids getting shot at by israeli snipers....

Why do you think they are helping the Kurds?

There is a mix of short term and long term strategies for all of the players....but the jewish religion and zionism is based on the promised land. It's like the concept of heaven for christians. They are central to the religions. I would argue that the new religion of money is the source of a lot of motivations but the traditional religions run deep. Israel has supported kurdish independence for a long time....because it suits short term goes against turkey and syria and arabs in general...but when it comes to the promised land, the israelis will turn on them. They are the chosen people and everyone else are gentiles.

excellent work by the israelis over the weekend in the refugee camp in gaza.....not just 100 killed but a couple of kids in a tent... the locals here must be proud

The leader of the Rebel forces in Syria is called al-Jolani, because his family was displaced by Israel from the Golan Heights and the family have been militant refugees ever since.

As much as Israel dislikes Assad, I'd rest assured they don't want al-Jolani wielding any power.

It's good for Israel if Syria tears itself apart, but if Assad and the Alawites abandon ship, or some of their allies turn on them because the writing is on the wall, it could be very bad for Israel.

Never a dull moment in Middle Eastern politics and war. What a great success those various European partitions have been /s

It's good for them if Bashar al-Assad loses power and is replaced by a stable and strong government without Iranian ties. It's not good for them to have it a fractured hotbed of militant groups - with jihadi groups likely to regain strength in the country as well as al-Assad's dependence on Iran - just increases the necessity of defending against another gateway of militant hostility. Syria is stuffed - there's just too many powerful militaries competing for influence through various Syrian militia. It's awful.

The Russians have already eliminated Jolani so his motley crew are without a leader, this whole operation is being run from Turkiye they no longer sitting on the fence threatening war with Israel all the while supplying them with goods and letting the Oil go through Turkiye, Erdogan is the most treacherous Muslim leader in West Asia.
I saw an interesting interview with an IndianGeo Political figure and he contends that the fighters in Syria are mercenaries from Ukraine and Uzbecks,Urgies from China and Azers very interesting points he makes.
