You're using millennial wrong btw, Millennials are Gen Y, most are between 30 & 40 years old

So many people get this wrong, it's coming of age at the millennium, not being born at it.

Also grouping people due to their generation in regards to having anything in common besides age is just dumb.

Gen X, actually, just not a miserable campaigner who can't adapt.

And Australians standing for the Australian anthem at a game between two Australian teams is the ultimate in sheep behaviour, just doing something because you've been told you should.
I stand for the Anthem because I am proud of and love my Country

Someone called it last week. The federal government has given the AFL $240M for Tassie stadium, so the AFL clubs have to be pro voice. I don't think there's anything more to it.
It had more to do with winning over sport loving conservatives who typically vote LNP. Voters who are trashing the stadium idea are preferencing Labor anyway. Same reason they are only increasing the dole for 55+ aged Australians this coming budget.

Looking forward to the “sports clubs are too woke” brigade’s response to this.

One opposing view to your comments above could be that standing for the Australian anthem at a game between two Australian teams is a sign of respect and unity for the country and its values. It is a way for people to come together and show their support for their nation and their fellow citizens. By standing for the anthem, individuals are not necessarily blindly following tradition or rules, but rather actively choosing to participate in a symbol of national pride and solidarity. Furthermore, the act of standing for the anthem is a display of gratitude towards the country that provides the opportunity for the game to take place and the freedoms to enjoy it

Not sure how the term was used wrongly. From the OED: Millennial – “relating to or denoting people born between the early 1980s and the late 1990s”. So… I stand by my post. I will also stand for the national anthem and be silent and respectful during Anzac services. People who refuse to do those things can GAGF.

Or maybe they asked those with First Nations' heritage involved with the club what their opinion is and allowed that to help form the club's stance?

You think 30 and 40 year olds are the ones driving wokeness?

Our statement was drafted by Ben Wyatt, an indigenous board member, FWIW.

Gun to their head .... if they don't support it, they're a traitor to their people.

What other answer could those asked for their opinion give?

Of course it is… then the article that showed the afl sending clubs 7 days to affirm their yes vote so then the afl can support it… ( as if they wouldn’t anyway)

Will be a rush in these announcements over the next day or so..

Where did THAT come from? It’s not what I said. Not standing for the anthem and being disrespectful during Anzac services are indicators of boorishness and sociopathy, not wokeness (which I would loosely define as relativism and its consequences). As for who’s “driving” wokeness – it probably IS Millennials, but with a great deal of assistance from all other generations (if we’re looking at it from a generational perspective). Those LEAST responsible for “driving” wokeness are Boomers.
