In all honesty, we were a ruckman away from the 2007 Grand Final, but looking at the big picture, Geelong deserved to be there much more than us, based on how they played throughough the entire season.

Ya ever think we got so close to Geelong because they were ripe to be beaten but we couldn't pick em off. All we did was tune em up for them to demolish Port. I expect if we had beaten Geelong a Collingwood/Port Adelaide Grand Final would have been a last man standing affair. Not the easy win Geelong had.

The chances are that if Geelong had thrashed us then they would not have had another thrashing left in them to give Port.

Get over this fictional notion that we were 5 points away from Number 15.....

Very sensible post. Collingwood getting so close to Geelong was the best thing that could have happened to Geelong.

Not just Tarrant

Throw in Nick Davis, Leon Davis and Jarrad Molloy. And Jason Cloke for getting suspended.

Molloy played with a broken toe.

Clokey, some might say, was unlucky.

In hindsight McGough should have played, but hindsight also tells us that Betheras and Freeborn and Molloy and McKee should all have been chosen for the following year's GF.

Disagree with most of that, except the McKee one, and rumour has it that he failed a fitness test on the eve of the GF and thats why we were forced into picking Walker. Molloy was a broken down wreck by that stage, he would have been no better than those who played. Betheras and Freeborn were also past it.

Actually i am going to make a bold statement
2008 grand final only my opinion will be either collingwood vs Hawthorn or collingwood vs geelong.
Collingwood and hawthorn to play off in a series of grand finals once both teams younger players mature a little.
I''l come back to this thread at round 12 and then during the finals.
Gee i am sticking my neck out so this is only a personal viewpoint, and i know i'll probably get ridiculed for it hey, what the heck,i remember saying that collingwood would play off in a grand final in 2007 at the beginning of the home and away season and i was one kick from being right.
So i'll stick to my guns and predict the same thing again .see what happens.

News flash to everyone: Collingwood were one goal off a flag last year. They got closer to Geelong than anyone did when it mattered most. They embarrassed North by over 10 goals and Port by 119 points, the two other teams to finish in the top 4. So why no respect?

The only answer is that people hate Collingwood so much that it prevents them from being objective towards them.

And people say they will fall this year. They can only get better. Yeah, they lost Buckley, Licuria and Clement, but Buckley and Licuria were irrelevant last year and even Clement did not play that many games.

After the games of C Wood and N Brown today, Collingwood already have shown that they have found a 10 year ruckman and a 10 year full back.

Then there is the development of Egan, together with the excitement in Ben Reid who will be given an extended chance to make his mark on the afl given Rusling's injury.

If Collingwood aren't playing off against Geelong in the Grand Final, I will be very surprised.

wow you shouldve kept quiet, it was early days and its been proven that beating freo was nothing to brag about. You also just lost to Carlton! anyways im sure you will still have a pretty good season. try and keep a lid on things
