• whatever Ryan Burton was/is these days whenever asked to play a stopping role,

• the pleasant surprise of former 2nd Round Pick/delisted forward Dylan Williams having a breakout year as a composed third tall defender, but seemingly not preferred as a full-time successor to Jonas;

So after they bade farewell to Bassett, they go get Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Ratugolea at around ~$1,500,000 in salary cap and in exchange for a few second round picks/Duursma.

Then they promote Tyson Goldsack to his first ever line-coaching gig at AFL level, to oversee what is a ginormous transition for the back six.

And all at a time when the overall gameplan calls for a high press that would ask massive questions of and potentially expose even the best tall defenders in the league as fishes out of water.

Exactly how high were the odds of all this paying off under those circumstances?

And they always seem genuinely shocked to the point of offended when they’re not greeted with a champagne shower and a lifetime supply of Dimoxinil from the fans when harebrained schemes like this don’t pan out.
