Jacinta Allan - Leading a zombie government

If common sense prevails, the developing CFMEU saga will eventually spell the end of Labor in Victoria, and maybe when taxpayers find out the true cost of the CFMEU owning Big Build projects this will occur. We are quite possibly talking billions of dollars!

In the Age today there is another excellent report by Nick McKenzie. He asks the very valid question - why did the Andrews and Allan governments cede control of the expensive "signature" projects to the CFMEU? Allan simply cannot deny knowledge. In fact, McKenzie says Jacinta was the Transport Minister when the Southern Programme Alliance (SPA) reported concerns about CFMEU influence on level crossing removals. A well connected adviser told McKenzie, "The (Big Build) public servants were definitely told. And its their job to tell the minister".

This whole saga is a disgrace. Any normal government would have fallen on their sword over this. And the silence is deafening on here from the usual defenders of this government

Yes. And if it wasn’t for Nick McKenzie the government and CFMEU would have continued in this sordid partnership with Victorian taxpayers paying the price.

Wow

New documents reveal stations on the $15bn Metro Tunnel have been delayed by a year, piling pressure on to the Allan Government’s promise to run trains by the end of 2025.
A contract variation tabled in parliament shows a provisional handover of the infrastructure to operators is now planned for 30 April — 12 months later than the date published previously.

It also shows details of the taxpayer contribution for blowouts worth $837 million that the Government revealed on AFL Grand Final eve, including $745m in capital costs.

Murdick

I bet pessuto wished he’d not gone with the ‘new trains can’t go in the metro tunnel’ crap when this juicy piece is much more cutting

They don't need to be making stuff up or crying wolf to be able to attack this Government.

There must be some pollsters somewhere who are advising them to take these strange positions.
The latest nonsense is the tunnel not opening in 2025.

And that is off a but of paper with some boring project contract milestones on it.

It can easily be thrown back on them from decisions on the past. The split of the train network from Kennett led to incompatible trains that don't run everywhere.

Kennett was Premier 30 years ago

We still suffer his **** ups.
So imagine how many generations are going to have to suffer because of the **** ups of Andrews and Allan!

And what are the legacies of the Kennett? Why hasn’t Labor, who have been in government for 20 years this century, done anything to “rectify”these so called **** ups?

Kennett privatising shit to start. Flogging off schools and hospitals.

Labor is just as neo liberal and should have fixed it. They have in some areas.

I'm sure people will complain about Andrews level crossing removals and the metro tunnel.

Do you think Kennett would have privatised if he’d inherited a state in healthy condition? Victoria was an absolute basket case. Granted, privatisation was the flavour of the era.

Remind me what hospitals did Kennett sell.

Privatisation and sell offs aside, Kennett put Victoria back on the map in so many ways, but of course Labor voters choose to ignore the good he did.

Both he and Dan got the place moving in different ways. Kennett did look at shutting some railways down

Kennet let transuban into the state. You may have noticed they aren’t leaving anytime soon
Why’s that? Because Labor keeps extending their contracts. The Kennett deal expired a generation ago.

They’ll never leave no matter who’s in govt

Especially as now that high court thing banning state govts charging a per km charge for each car.

How will roads be funded? That’s right tolls cos no one challenged the constitutional legality of that

Yes.

He's from the same cloth as Thatcher.

People killed themselves because what he did.

As for hospitals.

Odd, you'd think with the Greens being associated with a scandal, Labor would have a decent shot here.
labor already controls the legislative assembley on its numbers alone - what would be the point

alp hq hard heads probably saving money for the main event in 2026 where $ will have to be spent in previously safe labor seats in the west of melbourne

Yes. He loves privatisation.
And so did Paul Keating who went down this path before Kennett - think Qantas, Telstra, Commonwealth Bank. And Andrews embraced it too, along with Premiers across Australia of both sides.

I agree. Both sides are to blame. In fact I'm even more livid when Labor do it because it feels like a stab in the back. At least the Liberals are honest about their privatisation fetish.

Shouldn't that be the impetus to start putting ALP and LNP along with the Greens last, 2nd last and 3rd last in any way shape and form?

Why? I have some issues with the Greens, but they're not deal breakers. I'm struggling to think of any privatisation they've voted in favour of. Please remind me if I'm forgetting something.
