Damn women, earning their own money.

Get back in the damn kitchen and produce more F/S picks.
That’s pretty sexist of you.

The clubs already have women at the club kitchens making the players food to ensure they meet dietary requirements.

Plus, Geelong have some women doing massages. Rohan enjoys those ones.

But why should we be punished merely for being better run than other clubs. Especially the selling club Gold Coast??
We chose to prefer older players in pursuit of success contrary to conventional wisdom of a long arduous rebuild process. Managed to keep the list and cap in check in the meantime and now want to pursue good young players like everyone else. Why shouldn't we be allowed to?

Not like any rule was broken in pursuit of our goals, and no one minded that path between 2016-21 when we repeatedly s**t the bed with an aging list.

Why did we get pick 19 for Buddy when the rules allowed us to get anything from 1 to 19?

The AFL is meant to have equalisation as a primary goal. Letting Geelong get pick 7 for a bit of cash after winning a flag shows the AFL dont really care about it.

That said, I dont either. Well played Geelong. Its an AFL issue not a Geelong issue.

So, it goes something like this. We renegotiate the contract so 2m over 4 years. That doesn't mess up the pay structure too much.

If any of our players want to leave for more cash they can go. But they don't tend to.
Yeah, its clever from Geelong.
I guess I'm probably more dumfounded by GCS.
Surely other clubs were lining up for the same deal but prepared to take less.

But I'll wait to see what the actual deal was before getting too puzzled by it yet.

Contracted player has to agree to be traded.

Other clubs may have done the deal for less than pick 7, but you can't force Bowes to go there.

So, to ensure this is legit does the AFL make Geelong pay the full 1.6 over two years?
So they shouldn’t be allowed to make it 1.6 mill over 4?
The league clarified before the trade period that a team is allowed to spread money over an extended contract should they and the player in question so desire.

He will end up getting ~$2m over 4 years.

Also what is the veteran rule does that still stand ? Half salary for player at the club for over 10 years?

I thought the veterans rule got scrapped a while back.

So in this case the monetary deal that should be an advantage for bottom clubs evaporates

To all the conspiracy nuts, I'm just gonna keep posting this whenever you post nonsense:

**************************************************************

Lol, we'll basically have no highly paid senior players in 3-4 years time bar maybe Stewart and Jez Cameron.

Danger - 950K
Selwood - 500K
Hawkins - 300K
Duncan - 700K
Blics - 700K
Guth - 700K
Rohan - 300K
I. Smith - 500K
Stanley - 400K
Dahl - 500K
Higgins - 500K
Tuohy - 500K
Menegola - 400K
Ceglar - 300K

There's over 7 MIL out of our cap alone there - going off the reports of what has been said about our players and what they're getting paid (approx estimate). That's the thing that people don't get - you can't call us a retirement home and then cry 'rigged' when all our old players retire and we suddenly have cap. Players like Hopper and Grundy have both knocked us back, due to either money or lifestyle reasons - but we made plays for them as well.

Any club that has that amount of retirements in such a short amount of time, will be absolutely flush with cash. Look at what has happened to Hawthorn. If we had of finished outside the Top 8 and brought in all these young guns, no-one would have batted an eyelid - as it's all perception. The Premiers should not be able to win a flag, and then have a ton of cap space. But because we have a bunch of oldies who will all retire over the next 3-4 years

We'll have literally next to no-one left from when Danger came into the club at the end of 2015. THAT is why we have so much cap space. I know it's not 'edgy' or 'conspiratorial', it's just basic math and the luck of how our list structure has worked out. Had we failed in our quest for the flag like the Hawks and Eagles did when topping up, then no-one would care or be the least bit surprised that we'd have so much cap. They'd just be like 'yep they have a bunch of kids and all their stars are gone, so it makes sense they can make these moves...which is exactly what was being said about Essendon and Hawthorn today.

He was due to get $1.6m over 2.
So he plays year 3 and 4 for $200k a year in this example.

Other possible is the new CBA and more money available and he was again convinced to push out so he gets $400k next 2 years then $600k or more after that.

Seriously though.

This does seem a bit strange.

Cats must be immensely confident their players aren't going to come hat in hand after winning a premiership.

How can they get everyone to take pay cuts, then blow that chasing pick 7? That's almost certainly not what the players were sold when they took those cuts to keep the team together.

..... surely some players feel a bit miffed with this move and start asking for their full value?

Do you seriously think the senior players aren’t aware of what’s going on? They are actively recruiting him.
