To all the conspiracy nuts, I'm just gonna keep posting this whenever you post nonsense:

**************************************************************

Lol, we'll basically have no highly paid senior players in 3-4 years time bar maybe Stewart and Jez Cameron.

Danger - 950K
Selwood - 500K
Hawkins - 300K
Duncan - 700K
Blics - 700K
Guth - 700K
Rohan - 300K
I. Smith - 500K
Stanley - 400K
Dahl - 500K
Higgins - 500K
Tuohy - 500K
Menegola - 400K
Ceglar - 300K

There's over 7 MIL out of our cap alone there - going off the reports of what has been said about our players and what they're getting paid (approx estimate). That's the thing that people don't get - you can't call us a retirement home and then cry 'rigged' when all our old players retire and we suddenly have cap. Players like Hopper and Grundy have both knocked us back, due to either money or lifestyle reasons - but we made plays for them as well.

Any club that has that amount of retirements in such a short amount of time, will be absolutely flush with cash. Look at what has happened to Hawthorn. If we had of finished outside the Top 8 and brought in all these young guns, no-one would have batted an eyelid - as it's all perception. The Premiers should not be able to win a flag, and then have a ton of cap space. But because we have a bunch of oldies who will all retire over the next 3-4 years

We'll have literally next to no-one left from when Danger came into the club at the end of 2015. THAT is why we have so much cap space. I know it's not 'edgy' or 'conspiratorial', it's just basic math and the luck of how our list structure has worked out. Had we failed in our quest for the flag like the Hawks and Eagles did when topping up, then no-one would care or be the least bit surprised that we'd have so much cap. They'd just be like 'yep they have a bunch of kids and all their stars are gone, so it makes sense they can make these moves...which is exactly what was being said about Essendon and Hawthorn today.

Youre assuming no-one asks for a payrise over the next 2 years?

Just when the whining over the oldest team in record winning the premiership was starting to die down, this happens and provides us all with some more quality night-time reading.

The boy's coming home, that's all there is to it. Henry, Bruhn and pick 7 too to keep him company.

given the fact Suns kept pushing Bowes money back wouldn't surprise we are fronting his first year for 850k then decreasing across 3-4 years.

Home? He's from QLD.

Not exactly sure what you mean by this sorry.

in a competition that is equalised, one of the basis of it is that bottom clubs should have extr salary to bring in players because their lists are inferior.

by allowing Geelong to smooth Bowe’s salary, they are effectively saying:

No equalisation. It takes away the salary advantage that bottom clubs should have over Geelong.

Simply incredible coup by the cats.

Win the flag and end up with Bruhn. Henry. Bowes and pick 7.

Those salty opposition fans (my club included) that question bowes and Henry’s decision and think they won’t get a game, have no idea. This is a long term play.

Whilst they may not play every game next season, the cats and Stephen wells in particular are the best in the business. These players will be 10+ year players for the cats. They are in for the long haul.

They also have max Holmes to come into the side that won the grand final this year. That kid will be a top 10 player in the comp in the coming years.

How do they keep 7 and bring in henry and bruhn?

Are you able to run me through that scenario?

You think bottom teams should get extra cap space?

Or you mean that because they have a list full of average players, they should in theory have more room in their cap to play with?

Out of interest, where did you predict the Cats would finish this season?

Agree with that, but good luck getting the ALFPA to agree.

What I’m saying is, the deal should be that you have to pay the salary over two years. eg you must assume the debt that Gold Coast owe.
if you can do that now, good luck to you.

if Not, someone like North or Essendon who have a share of potatoes on lower salaries should be able to have a crack.

smoothing the deal is shit

Players and clubs are free to re-negotiate a contract at any time.

Interestingly, it seems that Hawthorn offered Bowes more money, and he still chose us.

It's not all about money.

Nah, so long as the player is paid what they are owed, clubs should be able to structure it as they see fit. The bigger issue is that bottom 4 clubs have to pay close to the same cap as top 4 clubs.

Oh of course we'll have players asking for a payrise. But that will also be timed with retirements each year. SDK, Close, Stengle, Holmes, J. Henry all likely for pay rises, but it's not like they're players who other teams will be able to poach (Holmes would be the most likely of that lot) - so we won't have to offer insane amounts of money.

That's the other thing, we don't lose players that often, so we also don't have to worry about paying more to stop getting them poached. You guys are the same. Even when down the bottom rungs, people aren't trying to poach guys like Mitch Lewis, Will Day, Sicily etc. because they know they're too ingrained and they won't move. It's just what happens with well run clubs. People are happy in their job, and the grass isn't greener for them. When it's guys like Clark and Kelly, however, it makes sense because they have the lure of home and friends and family, on top of a more lucrative contract.

That's why I think GC are going in a far better direction than say a club like GC or St Kilda, because even though they've had some colossal f*ck ups, if they can get guys like Anderson and Rowell and Touk to want to lead the club and stay for less money, then you're building something more than just a place to go to work everyday. You're building a culture, a brand and a harmonious environment that others want to be part of.

It's why clubs that change their culture and their branding, become far more successful than those who just go after big name recruits and pay them a ton of money, because when money is all your job is about, then the same commitment and camaraderie isn't there as it is with clubs who offer far more outside of a paycheque. In recent years, Richmond, you guys and us are perfect examples of this.
