If a club is going to take on a salary dump and receive a top draft pick for their troubles, they should have to wear the salary dump in their TPP. It's a rort that a club should benefit so massively via trade and not have to actually deal with the dump at all.If that's how contracts worked, then yes, sure. Evidently, that's not how they work, which is why we're opting to stretch it out for a longer duration for less.
Essentially the same as cutting a player in the NBA and stretching their contract out rather than eating the deal and having it off the books quicker.
Play for the Cats? He can't even get a spot in GC's 22Because it's not their decision. Why would Bowes agree to take less pay when he's already gone through the lean years on a back-ended deal? He owes them nothing, they owe him $1.6mil. And if they no longer want to pay him that, why would he do them a favour?
Instead he gets to go play for the Premiers and keep his money.
All reports are leaning to Geelong "smoothing out" the deal over more years, such as $500k a year for 4 years. This is a lot easier to manage than $800k over two. They do. That's the point
Sounds like a good idea for a rule but it's a bit late for this trade periodIf a club is going to take on a salary dump and receive a top draft pick for their troubles, they should have to wear the salary dump in their TPP. They're still paying itAll reports are leaning to Geelong "smoothing out" the deal over more years, such as $500k a year for 4 years. This is a lot easier to manage than $800k over two.
Probably not that much but for the life of me I can't understand why they're not at least getting a late first. Surely the fact that half of Melbourne was falling over themselves trying to secure the deal should show that Bowes + 7 for a nothing pick is way too good of a dealDespite the claims, noone would have taken him on for $400k a year let alone $800k a year without the pick 7.
GCS should give pick 7 to Geelong but demand pick 18 and their future 1st.
It's hardly a salary dump then, is it? They're getting a middling player on a middling salary for a few years, and a cool Pick 7 for their troublesThey're still paying it

Who says he isn't?The fact that Bowes isn't the main play, but is only being targeted for the pick that comes with him makes even a greater mockery of it all.
“My information that I’ve received is that the Cats had genuine interest in Bowes throughout the year, they were the first to approach his management group,” he told AFL Trade Radio’s The Late Trade upon learning of Bowes’ intentions.
“So you can probably understand why it wasn’t just about the pick, and that would come into the psyche of the player, thinking, ‘are they just coming after me for the pick involved?’
“I think the Cats have got genuine interest in the player and from afar, I think he’s made the right call.”

Fair enough if this is accurate.Who says he isn't?
SOS seems to have mail that contradicts this.

Except for the Suns
Because you’re a sook and unable to understand how a salary dump or player contracts actually worksFair enough if this is accurate.
Nevertheless, I don't agree with the nature of the trade
They may do so. The trade isn't finalised yetProbably not that much but for the life of me I can't understand why they're not at least getting a late first. Players should get a 20% re-signing bonus for the club that drafted them. That 20% is outside the cap.Equalisation at work. Afl really needs to look into giving teams extra salary cap to keep non home grown talent
Easy to have that stance when your club is the one benefitting from it. It's a rortGold Coast are dumping the salary. That's why it's called that and they need to pay or nodoby will take it. What Geelong then does with it, is between club and player. And good clubs, are able to do good things, that bad clubs can't.
Dahl and Higgins = $500 k eachSelwood must have been on pretty decent coin, it can’t be that big a stretch to replace him with Bowes.
And a couple of guys not getting regular games aren’t going to earn much more than our retirees (Dahl and Higgins). We might have to shuffle things around a bit but half our list is over 30, we can afford to back end three young players knowing in 2-3 years we’ll have space.
I thought you guys was saying Selwood took a haircut for the club?Selwood must have been on pretty decent coin, it can’t be that big a stretch to replace him with Bowes.

He would be borderline $800- $900 on the open marketI thought you guys was saying Selwood took a haircut for the club?
