Wasn't the rumour that he was wating for Novavax? If so, he might have to wait a couple of weeks for supply, but could be back training shortly.

It's weird that he would do most of a preseason only to refuse all vaccination and retire.

I think the club's PR machine would be taking a very different approach to the story if that was the situation.

I really do wonder how this plays out for him. Covid clearly isn't going anywhere, neither are the mandates.

What will change after standing down?

If that's the case, I will downgrade my 'dumbarse' comment to 'silly boy'

Jarrod Brander died for this?

"The club will continue to support Jack as he contemplates his options and is optimistic that he will return to build on his outstanding career to date."
I reckon that is the exact type of PR statement they would make if they thought he was waiting for Novavax.

Then don’t take your pay . It’s just a game as you say and how he can take his pay without doing what is required by his job.
i don't know that he is being paid. do you? either way that's between him and the club. perhaps the club isn't so vindictive about a personal health decision that they would just flush away one of theirs while other options are still on the table, at least for the time being.

If he wants to make that choice then that is his right but - as Djokovic found out - the choice he made consequences.

Put him on the long term inactive list and pay him 25% of his wage, which would still be more than most people would make.

Can't believe fans on the Facebook post drawing comparison between the Covid jab and Essendon's doping scandal. There's a genuine comparison piece about how players should stand up to the doctors at the club to protect their bodies. Some people are too far gone
Fans is a bit of a stretch. Most are not eagles fans - word has got out in anti-vaxx circles and they have flocked to the post... most have fake profiles and probably don't even know what AFL is.

Imagine being a poster child and hero for some of the dumbest tin foil hatters on the planet.

Hopefully he's in the waiting for Novavax bracket so he could return at some point

Ah yes, lose the next bloke in line for nothing and then one of the guys holding him back is going to retire 2 months out from the season opener anyway. Love how our list management works. Could be no JK and no JD in 2023 and we’ve just lost Brander for a bag of chips

We didn't even get the empty bag for Brander though..

good on him. footy is just a game and the mandate is insanely ******ed considering half the players over east got covid anyway.

A game that has happened to pay him several million dollars and be able to buy a multimillion dollar house while he’s still in his 20s. What else is he going to do to earn nearly a million dollars a year? I doubt Fox Footy is super keen to hire a commentator who quit the league because he didn’t want to get vaccinated during a global pandemic.

Jack has the right to choose and stay out of football.

It solves us being too tall with Oscar a permanent KPF difficult to fig in with HK and Jack plus it should give us wiggle room in the salary cap. I’m assuming Jack was in around $750 - so 25% gives us just over half a million to get us back to a more comfortable place.

Alternate could look at Guv to CHF. Happy we have Harry down back

Potentially throw away a lucrative career, associated marketing, future reputation as a club great and probably a lot of friends due to an irrational fear based on misinformation.

It just baffles the mind.

Trying to be optimistic on this - perhaps his absence will now cause a reversion to a smaller forward line and increased forward pressure.

not sure what point you're making here. that there is some magical amount of money that renders bodily autonomy null and void? that this decision will result in a huge pay hit? i think he's probably aware of that.

I may very well be reading too much into the clubs statement, but, the vibe i got from it is that unless the league somehow retracts their vaccination policy, then Jack has effectively retired.

There was always going to be some "casualties" from the mandate to be vaccinated, but its demoralizing that we have lost the highest profile player as a result of this.

I would like to say that perhaps sanity will prevail in time, but, if Jack hasn't got vaccinated now, i doubt he will in the future

Its annoying, and i very much disagree with his position, but, if this is the end i suppose we can only wish him well in his future endeavors

2022 season off to a flyer...........

Hmm don’t look good however we still have waterman will definitely play now. Perhaps a smaller forward could work in our favour?
