I mean for all of the talk about being a campaigner, JD literally got the vaccine he was comfortable with at the earliest opportunity. In that sense (looking through a very narrow lense I know) he did the right thing by the club.

The right thing by the club would have been communicating when the original deadline hit that he was committed to getting Novavax when it became available and then taking leave and training by himself until he got dosed. No fuss.

What I don't get is he got his first dose 3 weeks ago, why no comms until today?

Someone speculated he wanted to keep it private but that doesnt add up, it's come out and it always was going to.

The elephant in the room is still the stupid workplace injury BS which is something Jack posted himself. It's pretty obvious where all the shenanigans have emanated from and it's not the Eagles or the AFL.

JD has always come across as quite an introverted personality, softly spoken, doesn’t do a lot of interviews.
My guess is that he was suffering genuine stress and anxiety in regards to taking a vaccine, he probably didn’t want to share this with every mother ****er on the planet and after doing his research he decided that Novavax was ok with him.
The fact that he didn’t provide people a running commentary on his decision making irks some people on here, that’s their problem.
I’m glad his anxiety is over, and he can get back to doing what he loves, playing footy for WC.
Welcome back Jack.

A win for public health and common sense.

He has gone from being my favourite player to one I can't bear to look /hear about - I even changed my avatar
I hoped he was just waiting for Novovax but that doesn't seem plausible at all anymore since it has been available and he still isn't jabbed
If there's any truth at all to the rumours of not responding to teammates or others at the club, I think we have no choice but to cut ties since he has effectively walked away already
His selfish (at worst) and misinformed (at best) decision was one thing but the way he has gone about it is the most disappointing thing of all :(
A couple of weeks on , after the latest update, I'm stoked that he appears to have gotten vaccinated, and in time for round 1 no less
We may never know what lead to the change of heart, if he was simply waiting for Novovax all along, or even if it was simply Perth's recent predictable spike with the borders opening that lead to this, but needless to say, I'm stoked
I'm not switching my display picture back just yet though
I hope this preseason drama doesn't affect his form/fitness and that he/the team can move on though

So the first date Novavax was available was 21/02 from memory (I think that was prior to the official release date). Monday is exactly 3 weeks (coincidentally or not the same timeframe between doses) from that date.

It seems he may have got his 1st dose (but not told anyone for whatever reason) and the expectation is he will get his second dose Monday.

If he has been doing sufficient work on his own it is not beyond him to play on Sunday.

Also not sure where it leaves our salary cap, but the preference is/was always to have an elite forward playing than just worrying about shifting $

Novavax was available for vaccination in WA from the 14/2. We received our first delivery late 15/2 and commenced vaccinations with it on the 16/2. We had second dose patients back this week. Timeframe fits.

Misses out on match fitness for no good reason and was publicly deceptive throughout the whole process.

Will welcome his influence back on the field but can’t say I’ve got the same respect for him that I did before. Guess he can try to earn it back this season.

Time to step back and give credit where it’s due. Thank you Dark Sharks - as his sponsor you came through with the goods. Was it the chat with him on the Prospector or joining him for 45 minute sessions at the Local Council of WA personal training sessions that sealed the deal?

Regardless, he is not going to have the same problems connecting with his teammates as Carey did. I’m keen to see Jack giving his first Joe The Goose hand pass to Dixon to show he is a team player

A few things aren't adding up here though.

His instagram post and attempted exemption

Apparently not talking to team mates, the club or his manager

Getting the novavax at the absolute first opportunity

Some of this is fact, and some of it is media speculation. I'm guessing that the 'no contact' is a line run by the media that the club, players and his manager have been told to continue with.

He didn't say he was waiting for Novavax.

The most likely occurrence was that he was refusing to take any vaccine (hence the failed exemption route / medical leave fiasco he claimed) then realised he was going to be dumped if that occurred.

Novavax gave him a way out to avoid losing too much face, and avoid appearing to backdown.

If he had genuinely been waiting for Novavax from the start he would have said that, just like Jed Anderson.

Why not just play them all? Brander's spot on the wing is now available. Oscar Allen seems a likely candidate.

Having won a premiership in 2018 alongside Darling, Schofield said the forward would have to repair some relationships at the club after the “perceived selfishness” of his decision-making process.

“If I was still a player at West Coast, I would find it difficult to accept Jack Darling back into the group for this season,” Schofield wrote on Code Sports.

“For footballers, everything is overridden by the desire to win and, for the last three months, Darling’s absence has not helped the Eagles in their quest to do that. That would be hard for me to come to terms with.

“I know there are people in that building who are thinking the same way.”

Good guy Jack taking the attention from Willie for the restart.
