Probably a poor example using the KGI... connection to culture and place runs much deeper than a man made object/construct. So I think using the central message of KGI is supporting not getting attached to the stand's physical existence

Richmond Football Club has a culture that has survived multiple buildings being built then knocked down and replaced.
Most of us knew the previous buildings and the stories Wallace told about them being absolutely horrible when he arrived in 2004. Despite best intentions they weren't good enough and when they eventually became too small to allow us to develop along with the other clubs they were knocked down and replaced with a bigger and better facility.
Now we have so much going on within the club that we need to expand again. Renovating the Jack Dyer Stand isn't going to allow us to spread office space, isn't going to allow us to have dedicated changerooms for teams playing at the ground. It isn't going to allow us to have improved facilities for patrons who can put more money into the club when we're hosting those games and that comes from having the ability to have 8-10k fans at games comfortably.

They should have opened the development plan to the members, with a variety of options.
Full development, part redevelopment, and so on.
A transparent, open, process of consulting.
Instead, they seek to impose a fait accompli.
They are not experts in development and don't pretend they are.
They can take a hike if they demolish the heritage.

It’s the boards job to make these calls and they are given the mandate to make the calls by the members when we vote them in

I appreciate it's important to you... And that's ok...
But given the brave and correct decisions our leadership team has made over the last 10 years, I'm prepared to back them in here.
In one breathe you want members to vote on what to do, but in another you claim the club aren't experts to make this decision.
Well I would guess the club would have hired experts in the development field for this project, and their position would be more reliable than a bunch of footy supporters with less expertise voting based on emotion.
And if it bothers you enough to leave the club, then that is your choice. As some may have when the club kept dimma instead of sacking him at the end of 2016. It is everyones right to an opinion and belief, but it also doesn't mean it respresents everyone else tho either

... as long as everyone who wanted a say read the full supporting documentation, case studies, options, financials ...etc etc etc.
At the end of the day we elect the board to make these decisions on behalf of the club, and therefore its members. A LOT of time goes into these decisions, and if the stand is not listed then while it may have a special place in some of our hearts so be it. We heritage list ****ing everything in this country.

Exactly, history is important but you can’t hold on to it at the expense of the future.
It’s not like Jack Dyer gets no recognition at the club anyway, has a statue out the front and the B&F is named after him, arguably he gets more recognition in that regard then any past player of all clubs in the competition

The members pay fees over decades and have a right to be consulted on major plans.

I mean, consult some lifelong members but asking me is as good as asking a tree - I know less than the board I voted in to have experts make these calls

is anyone seriously questioning the decisions the club is making? You couldn’t get a better run club. They have a board and sub committees that looks at all of this stuff.
I’d like to see them get creative in raising the additional cash. Maybe some sort of supporters bond or something.

Being ruled by emotion is exactly why we vote for a board to make this difficult decisions, we aren’t privy to the information they have to make these decisions to make a properly informed decision.

The board don't sit there and draw the designs themselves mate, they go to professionals to make the call - the board are the ones who hire those people.

I just hope the new development actually includes ALL members.
When the Swinburne Centre was completed, I found a basic membership albeit (AFL Club Support) excluded me from going in after a game and buying a beer.
Mind you, for 20 years prior as a basic member I could buy a beer on the terraces.
RFC just remember who supports you and whilst I don’t care about sitting in a venue (Swinburne Bar) ....... extend a drink license onto the terraces for the basic ‘rusted on’ supporter.
The new facility may be grand and add to the overall development, don’t forget where your real support is!!
