The members pay fees over decades and have a right to be consulted on major plans.
The board are not experts in development, pure and simple.
There was no consultation and don't pretend there was.
I trust our board to make the right decision far more than I do our members

The fact its condemned on the inside means there is a massive chunk of our limited space unusable

Pretty straight forward

Boards are voted in by the members to be entrusted to take charge of the direction of the club, to think that members then need to be consulted on every forward decision is ludicrous

so much wrong in one small post

1) the redevelopment was first announced September 2018 https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/thre...-in-60m-punt-road-oval-redevelopment.1204066/ As you can see from that link, it was clearly advised that the Dyer Stand would most likely be removed.

2) The club had an AGM in 2018, and again in 2019. You, as a member, had the opportunity to ask questions about the redevelopment at either of these meetings. You, as a member, had the right to run for the board to oppose the redevelopment. Noone did however.

I also spoke to Peggy direct on this issue at one function, and I know punters asked Balme about it (for an update) at another. They both provided clear and transparent answers at the time.

3) Boards are not expected to be experts on everything they do, thats what they hire people for. I dont expect Peggy to know how to install a new turf oval. I dont expect Emmett to know how to pick the best junior talent in the country. I dont expect Malcolm to know how to rehab an ACL. Thats what I expect them to hire people to do. Their job is to receive advice from experts and make the best decisions they can based upon this.

I just hope the new development actually includes ALL members.

When the Swinburne Centre was completed, I found a basic membership albeit (AFL Club Support) excluded me from going in after a game and buying a beer.

Mind you, for 20 years prior as a basic member I could buy a beer on the terraces.

RFC just remember who supports you and whilst I don’t care about sitting in a venue (Swinburne Bar) ....... extend a drink license onto the terraces for the basic ‘rusted on’ supporter.

The new facility may be grand and add to the overall development, don’t forget where your real support is!!

The Social Club was never going to be a free for all. It took us years to get our liquor licence back, and the club wasnt going to risk losing it again.

also you can still drink a beer on the terraces at any VFL game they host

Just out of interest - as a member is there any time I can turn up and buy a beer and sit down at Punt Road and drink it?
Casually

no, its not a bar as such. its a function room, and is usually available after games.

occasionally that doesnt happen if there is a conflicting booking (like a club event)

be interesting to see if it stays in this building, or is relocoated to the new build

Hi Lounge Lizard, do you think the club would consider selling small pieces of the Jack Dyer Stand as a way of earning extra funds for the development and giving die hards a chances of owning a rare piece of history. What do you think if this is possible or not. I know for one would love to own a piece of the mighty Tiges🐯

I'm just a fan, so I don't know the answer to that - but the club has taken a leaf out of Queen's book of making a quid from nothing in a brilliant fashion and a way you don't quite realise it, so I would say yes

I thought so - thanks for the reply

Ned_Flanders it's been a while since I tried to pop into Punt Road, what is available to the public on a 'normal' day?

main thing is the superstore and the museum

the place wasnt really designed to pay homage to, it was about function (remember what we came from)

None of that surprises me

I was curious if I would be allowed to run laps on the surface (if no one else was on it) or if it's locked out

I saw this photo today and thought it looks like a sh*t fight, and the box in the middle is crap too. Hopefully some of it can be saved like the posts and fret work etc.

What a ripper of a stand. Solid brute of a thing, must have been so intimidating for visitors when it was heaving back in the day. Has to be retained imo (any know if Richmond Cricket Club has petitioned for it to be retained? Huge part of their history too).

The new stand should be built on the southern wing (starting where this photo is taken), together with a sky bridge from the Richmond station platforms over Brunton. Two birds, one stone, they simply have to get people off street level at the back of Richmond station, amazing there haven't been more serious accidents. Exactly what they did with the ramp at the back of Spencer Street station to the docklands stadium would be perfect.

With the sky bridge in place, Brunton Ave can be returned to it's original path right by Richmond station, and we get our outer back, and space for the stand.

Surely now that they are printing money, we can do PRO and Richmond station skybridge?

we should do a disco once a week for Richmond supporters in the social club

we need to breed better and stop marrying oppo fans

Richmond Station will not happen till AFTER metro is finished. They need to see what demand for it will be like once Pakenham/Cranbourne no longer calls there

They should have opened the development plan to the members, with a variety of options.
Full development, part redevelopment, and so on.
A transparent, open, process of consulting.
Instead, they seek to impose a fait accompli.
They are not experts in development and don't pretend they are.
They can take a hike if they demolish the heritage.
So they aren't experts, but you want it opened up to members to vote on, where the majority of us aren't experts.
